Some people want the government to stay the fuck out of their lives, some people want the government to be another parent to them, providing everything and telling them what they can and can not do. I, for one, do not want the government telling me what to do at all.
For example, here in Michigan there is now a public smoking ban as well as a ban on Four Loko. I do not smoke and I do not drink Four Loko, so really, this does not affect my life personally. I actually don't even like smoking, and do find it sort of nice to not smell like smoke after being out at a bar. Although I appreciate this, I still disagree with it a little bit. I know second-hand smoke is bad, especially around children. I can understand people not liking it in restaurants, but at concert venues and bars, I'd be pretty upset if I was a smoker. A lot of the time smokers are inconsiderate to non-smokers, but smoking is a right that our nation allows. And for them to say no! you can't do that anywhere anymore! is kind of lame. I just don't like the idea of giving the government more control, because it makes me wonder what they are going to try to take away from us next.
Also, now Four Loko is being taken away. Tomorrow is the last day any liquor retailer is able to sell it. And this is by far the most ridiculous ban. This is like prohibition, but just with Loko. Okay, big deal, it's alcohol and caffeine. Vodka red-bulls, anyone?!? I don't give a shit if people are too irresponsible to drink them, their fault, not mine! The government shouldn't have to protect people from their own stupidity. If people are going to be dumb, let them. Let them learn. I don't give a shit if people allegedly died from these drinks, if they even did solely from the beverage itself. Kids die all the time from alcohol and drug over-dosing. It is a part of life and it will never stop! People make their own choices, so let them fucking deal with the possible devastating outcomes of those. I understand educating against over-consumption, but this ban isn't going to change the fact that people like caffeine and alcohol.
This country shouldn't be banning everything that can hurt someone. Truth is, almost everything can be fatally dangerous and it cannot and should not all be controlled, because it's impossible to do so.
