"No one will tell us who we should love"
For those who don't know, today is international LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day, do you know the history of this date?
In 1969, the Stonewall Inn, in the bohemian Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, was one of the best-known LGBTQIA+ bars in New York, a meeting point for those marginalized in society. At that time, same-sex relationships were considered a crime in almost all American states β in New York, homosexuality only stopped being criminalized in the 1980s.
In the early hours of June 28th, it was invaded by a police raid, and in a violent approach, many gays, transvestites and drag queens were violently attacked and arrested.
The following day, the LGBTQIA+ community took to the streets, for 6 days, in an unprecedented and forceful act.
In other words, it marks the beginning of our eternal and daily fight for equal rights, acceptance and the freedom to be who we are, without fear.
Are there evolutions? yes, but we are still galaxies away from what we deserve. πβ€οΈ
