My father woke up about two weeks before Chirstmas 2007 and discovered that he could no longer walk. It certainly seemed as though it would be temporary. We took him to the VA and waited for what ended up being weeks and a near death on New Years Eve. My mother refused to leave his side on that Monday evening because "You spend New Years Eve with the person you want to spend the year with" A belief that has failed me in life but has served the both of them for over 45 years.
The paralysis was caused by an illness called Cavernous Angioma and has altered the lives of the everyone close to him. My mother has been amazing as she leads us all into unfamilar territory as my father handles his new life with a grace that inspires me to become a better man. The new challenges are often difficult, but regardless of the trials we have endured there is one thing we are incredibly thankful for. He is with us now
Happy Father's Day, Pop
