Thanks again to @fredhincanada
One of your comfort movies/series that you have seen more than three times.
Donnie Darko. I generally don't like to pick number ones, but in this case I believe this is my all time favourite film. This was always my go to movie to put on in bed after a night out, it just feels like a warm blanket. I still watch it at least once a year. The surrealism, the saviour motif, time travel, a total mindfuck of a film (just how I like them 😅). And the soundtrack, my God the soundtrack, some of the best songs to ever come out of the 80's. And it rightfully launched Jake Gyllenhaal to stardom. If you haven't seen it, go watch this film.
And being an Aussie, I feel like I also have to give a shout-out to a hometown hero. If Donnie Darko is my number one, this is hot on its heels as a very close second.
Two Hands. Another early film for an actor that went on to be a superstar. This is such an Aussie movie and I fucking love it. Bogan criminals, sick Aussie muscle cars, junkie homeless teenagers, Heath Ledger as an underground fighter who works at a strip club by night, a gorgeous young Rose Byrne as the country girl love interest, and there's even a weird supernatural element going on in a few scenes, there's something for everyone 🤣 And it's fucking funny, the Aussie vernacular in this cracks me up every time, and the botched bank robbery scene has one of the all time greatest slapstick laughs of any film I've seen. Another true comfort watch for me. If this film isn't on your radar, it should be. You're welcome.
