Last weekend, saturday, 3:30 am.
I'm bored.
Solution? Visit friends. That means drive to san francisco. It's 3:30 am. By 3:45 I'm on the road with a 1 litre of coke and a set of mapquest directions to "San Francisco, CA".
Southern Oregon, Northern California? Gorgeous. Sweeping hills and valleys, Elevation, Green.
California valley? Boring - however, not as bad as Ohio.
Decided half way into the valley to stop by a friend's in Santa Rosa (now around noon). I soon realize there is no easy way to get from I-5 to I-101 so I stop and buy a map. Perhaps not the sharpest move, it gets me lost repeatedly. (Apparently, the map designer had a new concept of highways such that three of them can intersect at one point and all share the same name.
Finally get to san fran at around 9pm - much later than I had hoped. Got to cross the golden gate at night, well worth the $5 toll to use the bridge.
10pm, arrive at friends. I drink one beer and promptly crash from exhaustion.
... Probably not one of the smarter ideas I've had in my life, as I had to leave mid afternoon the next day to get back in time to go to work. Oh well; sometimes you just need to just jump in the car and drive.
