1.4 million Phoenix residents urged to boil water

PHOENIX -- The 1.4 million residents of Phoenix are being warned to boil their water until further notice -- and to limit what water they do use.

City officials say there is a turbidity problem. Muddy water due to recent storms is coming into one of the city's two operating water treatment plants, reducing the output of that plant.
Two other plants are shut down due to maintenance.
That leaves essentially only one of the city's five water treatment plants producing water for the entire city.
Ken Kroski, a spokesman for the Phoenix Water Services Department, said turbidity has no health effects. It can, however, interfere with water disinfection and provide a medium for bacterial growth, and can indicate a presence of disease-causing organisms, he said.

Dr. Art Mollen said water should be boiled for approximately two minutes before using it.
Besides boiling water for drinking, residents are being told to take short showers and shut off landscape watering. Residents are also advised to give their pets boiled or bottled water.
They are to use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation and washing dishes.
Meanwhile, the terminals at Sky Harbor International Airport have stopped serving coffee and fountain drinks and are only serving bottled beverages, according to Julie Rodriguez with the city of Phoenix. Food is being prepared with bottled water. Airlines have and will continue to have bottled water on flights.
Chandler city officials have announced that their city's water supply is safe to drink and more than adequate to meet the demand. Peoria city officials have also said their water supply is unaffected by the sediment problem Phoenix is experiencing.
This is going to suck! I have no car so bottled water for me
Oh! I'm not sure on an exact date as of yet but I'm planning a creepy foreign horro movie night as kind of a bon voyage to this apartment since we move next month so if you'd be interested let me know. So far slotted for watching id ringu and ju-on

Did you see that pic of the mayor drinking the first glass of water? That was convincing... I thought he was going to cry after he finished. "Please... get this feces infested water out of me!" Heh
