A list of things that happened:
- when the alarm went off, I jerked my arm up to grab it and accidentally elbowed Steph in the eye.
- Steph had to drive me to work because she was scheduled to work 3 hours later. And then when she arrived, they had changed her schedule so she didn't have to work at all, and her whole day was essentially wasted.
- On the way to work, we stopped for gas. The woman in front of us tried to drive off with the pump nozzle still in her van. It ripped the hose off the pump.
- The regional manager was inspecting my store when I got to work, and there were stacks of unfinished things all around.
- In front of the regional manager, I had to offer our new membership card to a customer. The customer claimed his email address was misspelled when he set it up at gmail.com, so he wanted me to change his listing in our system to "gmsil.com." Also, he didn't understand that $17 was not enough to purchase two $15 items.
- Corporate office put me in charge of calling our other stores and collecting their sales data. All other stores I contacted has fewer customers and more employees on the floor than we did. WTF.
- Got swamped with teenagers all night, had no time to do any of the things that HAD to be done by closing, so ended up staying until 12:30 am trying to do them all.
- the overstuffed back room fell over on me, leaving big red welts on my back. Fun.
- Steph showed up to help me. She hurt her ankle on a hidden metal rack in the back room.
- The register came up $103 short. I found it, but not a scare I needed after everything else.
- Discovered, after being told I had to scan two whole categories of inventory before I left with over 500 items in each and completing one of the scans, that both scans had already been done by another manager.
- Had to wait on tech support to fix one of the computers over the phone before I could actually close down the registers. Discovered they were useless and fixed it myself by borrowing parts off another machine.
- Got locked in the mall. Found an unlocked service entrance at the opposite end, which is about half a mile away, with Steph limping on an injured ankle the whole way. And then limping back around the outside to the car because security was nowhere to be found and she was scared to wait by herself while I retrieved the car.
- Passed a dead body in a car surrounded by police on the way home.
