We drove from Bellingham, WA to Seaside, OR Friday night. Normally this trip takes about 5 hours, but due to snow and downed trees it took 10 hours. I have never seen this many trees on the road. I would estimate 50+ trees, some were total blocking and had to be dragged off the road and one was so large that we had to wait until someone with a chainsaw showed up to cut it into smaller chunks that could be dragged.
So it's about 4 am and we arrive at the KOA in Hammond. The power is out. Great, that means no heat and we had specifically rented two cabins because they had heat and power for CPAP machines. So we bundled up with what we had and got no sleep, taking turns sitting in the car with the heat on to warm up for the remainder of the night.
Come morning there is still no power and KOA provided no emergency lighting so we all went to the bathrooms using flashlights. No showers, no washer/dryers, etc. If I wanted to go camping, I'd go camping! We specifically got cabins for the power and heat. So okay, natural disasters are not their fault, right? That's fine, but how about a refund for the services we expected and paid for but did not receive? nada
We bitched enough that they did agree to refund us for the second night and we went and got a cheapo motel room so we could takes showers and have heat before heading home.
While it was quite eventful, it was not the intended Valentine's day weekend we had planned.
