Well, let's begin again. Born anew, Life do-over.
I've decided that Dad's death was a wake up call. And no, I'm not going to dwell on him here. I don't want to depress my one reader, lol. However, Carpe Diem has been really shoved down my throat, and I'm going to grab life by ITS throat and take from it what I can. I hate my job. So I'm gonna change it. I've been a pencil pushing drone (at work, not elsewhere) for almost 15 fucking years, and it's probably going to kill me young. Few people get to do what they love. Certainly I'm not, so time to change. Life's too short.
First step, get my life in order. Got a big start on Friday and Sunday - both days off - by beginning to clean up my pigsty of a house. I haven't done anything since dad went into palliative care, no laundry, vacuuming, dusting etc. My poor roommate. He just had ACL surgery and can't clean up after himself, much less me, so he's had to live in this place as it gets worse. Well, I'm 2.5 rooms and 12 loads of laundry done as of this evening more to follow tomorrow. Also a day off.
Next step, get my paperwork in order. I got a new computer a year and a half ago, was gonna scan everything into it. Get that done. I haven't done my taxes. Get that done. Find a workout that I had made for me by a trainer in the paperwork mess, 2 years ago and start using it. A healthy active mind, requires an active healthy body. This hockey season, I'm gonna start off in shape, instead of struggling for 2 months.
Next. New career. It ain't "the job" I hate. Or at least not this one specifically. I hate my career. HATE!! I love beer. It's hard to find a decent selection of good beer here. I'm going to open a beer store. a GOOD beer store. We have few in BC, if any. That's gonna change along with me. I'm gonna risk my house, everything. It's gonna scare the hell outtta me, but I'm gonna do it. Dammit!! The hard part will be getting a Liquor Licence. For those of you not from here, getting a liquor store licence is hard. There aren't issuing new ones anymore. Ya gotta find one for sale, or not in use. This store is going to be modeled after the good ones in the US. Knowledgeable staff - no minimum wagers here. They will get free samples to try, so they can make recommendations. The interview process will start with the question: what's your favourite beer. It the answer is Bud, Miller, Coors, Molson, Labatt, Corona, etc. NOT HIRED!! We'll have tastings every weekend. The idea is to mimic the things I've seen successfully done in other industries. Video stores give their employees new releases on the weekends before the Tuesday releases. The wine industry here created itself overnight by doing 2 things. Offering a great product, and letting you try before you buy. Wine touring here is free. If there are not enough high-end beer drinkers here, then I'll convert people into high-end beer drinkers.
So ends the rant. That is the plan. Updates to periodically follow. The goal: be in a store by Christmas.
All for today.
