**PHOTO KRAZY! BEWARE!**
I finally got a new job at a health services company in downtown SD called American Specialty Health, and I started work today. I'm thrilled that I'll be making a lot more $$ than I thought I would make at an entry-level admin job, but I'm sad that I'll be committing to a full-time schedule complete with office cubes and dress codes. I'll miss being able to sleep in and dressing in whatever way I want. My typical wardrobe doesn't know the meaning of casual business attire, so that means I'll have to go buy some boring, conservative shit. That definitely means no facial piercings, crazy hair, or visible tattoos either (not that I have tats now, but if I ever got any in the future, they'd have to be inconspicuous). Grrrr. No fun. 'Tis the rules of the working world unfortunately.
I took random photos around Balboa park last week with my friend Heather, just for kicks. Typical and cliche of Balboa, but they're still pretty anyways:
In the plant atrium
At the waterlily pond
More waterlilies
A photoshopped waterlily - I liked these colors!
My best friend, Josie, visited me last week, and I loved seeing her, as always. Now she's in Chicago, getting prepared and settled in for the tedious days of med school ahead. I know she'll kick med school ass! She's my missing side of reason and practicality, and that's why I luv her. She balances me out. Pics of us from her visit:
Here's some pics that I took while we walked along the beach and down by the pier:
In other news, I was a vision of white in my bridesmaids dress at another best friend's wedding this weekend. Shauna looked absolutely stunning in her gorgeous Jessica McClintock gown. I've never seen her glow with so much happiness and anticipation as she did on her big day. The reception (the only part I could attend since non-Mormons can't set foot in their temple) was a radiant display of roses, candlelight, fountains, and pure twinkling elegance. Unfortunately, I hardly know the groom, since they met at BYU in Utah, but from what I know of him, he is a wonderfully sweet guy. I couldn't be happier for them - they looked unbelieveably beautiful together... especially when they had their slow dance in front of the fire, and I cried like the little baby I am. I still can't get over the fact that she's married. That whole concept is still so foreign to me at this point in my life. Not something I want for myself any time soon...
And now, one of my favorite poems by Margaret Atwood (yes, that same author most known for The Handmaid's Tale)... I'm really sleepy right now, so I'm feeling this at the moment:
"Variations on the Word Sleep"
I would like to watch you sleeping,
which may not happen.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head
and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear
I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, the one
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
again & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as breathing in
I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.
Ah... 'tis beautiful, no?
