Yesterday I got my first tattoo, which is maybe not such a big deal to 95% of the people here but it was a big deal to me!
I've considered getting one for many years but always been hesitant for a number of reasons. I wanted to avoid any kind of illustrative artwork, because I'm pretty fickle and know that something I think is cool today, I might think is way less cool a few years from now. I definitely didn't want to use any of my own artwork because I'm always growing and changing as an artist and usually look back with horror and embarrassment at old artwork of mine. And I definitely didn't want to have anything that would date or become meaningless to me in the future.
After a lot of thought and a lot of drawing it on my arm in Sharpie, I settled on a comic book word balloon:
Simple, iconic, tasteful, representative of my life's work, and will always be meaningful to me. I love comics, and comics have been good to me.
