Quote of the day (or until I post another):
"Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position. Such a heavy burdon, now, to be the one. Born to bear and bring to all, the details of our ending. To write it down for all the world to see. But, I forgot my pen."
So, taking a break from the self abuse of working at home on a weekend and I found an SG news article about Chris Cornel, ex Soundgarden, ex soloist, ex Audioslave, born again soloist. Someone posted a comment with a link to vid of an acoustic rendition of Black Hole Sun, an old Soundgarden favorite of mine.
That made me lament the passing of the 90's and the music that came out of that decade. It also made me ask myself why music today isnt like it was then...passionate, real, experimental...I have not heard a responce to that question. It would appear that i have taken leave of myself...temporarily. I hope.
Anyhoo, here's a sampling of the good stuff that came out of the 90's...
Chris Cornell - Black Hole Sun, acoustic
Metallica - The Unforgiven
Listen to the solo at 3:46...beautiful. Don't write 'em like that anymore, nosiree.
Alice In Chains - Would?
Ahhhh, Layne Staley. One of Rocks greatest and most overlooked vocalists. This was from the Singles soundtrack, before he gave his sunglasses to Bono and before his life was consumed by heroin addiction. May he rest in peace.
Pantera - Walk
Grove Metal, baby! Love that main rif.
Megadeth - Symphony Of Destruction
Warning - there's some big fuckin hair in this vid
Anthrax - Got The Time
"no such thing as tomorrow, all we want, 2,3, GO!"
And we cant forget to include...
Blind Melon - Change
Another great vocalist gone way too soon. Shannon Hoon, rest in peace.
Lemonheads - Its A Shame About Ray
can you spot Jonny Depp?
Yeah, so back to work.
