God, what a week! October is a funny month for business, but my regulra clients swapping around their requirments, them changing shooting dates, and my overall big blue fugg have really made this a tough one. I finally gave in and retired my crappy consumer 28-135 lens and replaced it with the de rigeur 24-70 F2.8 - at 920 i'm going to be lucky to cover the cost with this month's billing! How I made it this long without one I have no idea, but it is already my favourite lens and pretty much lives on the MkII all the time now.
Regular drop-ins to this journal will probably be aware that Idjiit and I just plain don't get on. He's a measurebator and I'm a pompus Limey prick, never a bed on which a good realtionship is based, but I think we are at least trying to get along on forum and keep bickering off line. Maybe I'm getting old, but I really have no stomach for making enemies so I really have presented a laurel of peace in the hope that we can both put iffy posts behind us and just appreciate our very different styles and personalities for what they are. He really does know his stuff and to be fair, he has been very straight up with me in the last couple of days in both the photographers and wannabe's forum. He rejected my peace offering of an application to his friends list (he doesn't want to be associated with someone like me apparantly) but we have oppened up a bit of a dialogue and I think we are both grown up enough to appreciate that sniping on a forum makes it about as productive to other mebers as the jerry springer show. Hopefully we'll continue along this path and who knows, maybe we can actually be friends rather than arch enemies.
Work has been slow, but I have a big fashion shoot next month and a shoot and interview with Julian temple (he of Great Rock and Roll Swindle and Filth and the fury fame) so hopefully this is one crap month sandwiched between two storming ones.
I've just sparked off a relationship with Zero magazine, and hopefully I'm going to become a regular contributor. The ditor is a sound chap, and seesm to like a lot of my ideas. He seems to have an enthusiasm for journalism that I thought had died out with Hunter S Thompson. I'm looking forward to getting some page space on the flat plan. Incidentally, if anyone is in the UK, buy Zero; it really is a top mag for anyone into goth or rock music.
I was trying to shoot a feature for Zero on the Whitby Goth Weekend but apparantly 'goths are very private people who shy away from publicity, as do the performers - so we never allow press in to respect both parties' or words to that effect. Essentially they can't be bothered. My experience with the organisers suggest that organising a drinks reception in a brewery would be beyond their capabilities. Fuck 'em.
Massive respect for London who runs the wannabe group. With her persmission I posted an introduction as a UK photographer looking for models. I followed the guide lines set laid down but someone else had done something similair and it all kicked off. By all accounts the other person was someone with an interest in naked girls and a digital compact, but it all got a bit nasty. Idjiit was very fair and fought my corner (hence above comment) and I mailed London to make sure I hadn't done anyhting beyond guidelines. Her biggest concern? That everyone just got along with eachother and stopped arguing! Top girl, great attitude and a credit to SG.
Appart from that, nothing much new. I have new glasses (D+G specs and Prada sunnies) a very nice new Paul Smith coat that I zan-zanned for the first time this week. Sorry, maltese girlfriend; zan-zan (SIC) is the matese verb to wear a new item of clothing for the first time....how sweet is that?!!

I'm waiting for the very same lens to come in the mail, that way I can finally take the 17-40 f/4 off the camera.
