Mission Gig last night :-D
I'd almost forgotten quite how much I love this band! How much I adore their music and how uplifting it is, how good they sound live, raw and powerful. *sigh* Ok if it sounds like I had a good time then thats probably because I did *lol*
L&I decided to make a night of it so we booked into a nice hotel in the city so that we didn't have to mess about trying to get back home again. I've been stuck in Nottingham at 4am before and its not much fun.. although the night preceeding it was (although that in itself is another long story) When we got to RC it turned out the gig had been shunted sideways to the Rescue Rooms as there was maintainance going on in the main hall. I've never been to the RR before but I know it's far from the size of RC which can get horrendously crowded at the best of times! So being a hot night I must admit I wasn't really relishing the prospect of being stuck in an even smaller room. First impressions weren't good! The main hall was tiny! and already cram packed when we got there so things were not looking good. That was until we discovered that not only was there another bar next door but there were a couple of nice places to sit outside and best of all a stairway up to a surprisingly empty bar and a great balcony with fans (of the extractor sort not the human kind!) and a great view of the stage!!! YAY!
The gig was excellent, The Mission always sound fabulous live, even if at times their sound seemed a little too big for this small venue. Playing a good mixture of songs from the 20 (!) years they've been together they totally blew me away. The only complaint really being that they have such an amazing back catalogue of songs that there were so many that didn't get played :-( (no Evangeline which i'm dying to hear live, no Stay With Me or Severina!) Tower of Strength sounded absolutely awesome though and of course no TOS would be complete without the predicatable human pyramid being formed by certain members of the crowd (those without the black painted zimmer frames that is... hmm I'm sure that some of the crowd were probably grandparents but hey nice to see that they're still out going to gigs no matter what their ages *lol* and hey Wayne isn't getting any younger either! )
Anyway it was a wonderful night rounded off by pizza in bed at the hotel at 1am! Best time for pizza
