Transition
Well, I am now in my new apartment. It took an epic amount of effort last Sunday to move all of my stuff in here. I did it on my own, using a friends car, which she lent to me at the last moment, and moved from 5:00am to 9:00pm going back and forth between Monona, East Madison, and Downtown. I could not stop because I only had the car for that one day, and it ALL had to be moved, including all the stuff in the basement, that needed to go to the storage unit. It was truly monumental.
I have spent this last week getting things organized, both here and at my mother's new apartment. She has not had any money, so between my brothers and I, we have been bringing her food and supplies. I helped her unpack all of her boxes, and get stuff hung up and put away. I think she will be fine, as far as money is concerned, once the new month begins.
I spent Wednesday from 11am to 9pm cleaning the old apartment and getting things out to the garbage holding area. I need to go back tomorrow for several hours and clean the rest, including the kitchen, which will be monsterous. Then I will, we will, be done with the place. I do not have any money to pay the rent there for September. So, if they do not rent it in the next week, well then, we are going to have a problem. I guess we shall see what happens from here.
Meanwhile, my new apartment needs to have little things like cove base, bullnose tile, weatherstripping, regrouting of the kitchen tile, and various other cosmetic and semi structural elements taken care of. It also need to be cleaned. I will spend the next month applying time and effort to these projects. On the whole, I think with time, money, a little decorating, and a lot of loving maintenance, this apartment could turn into a comfortable and stylish place to be in the world.
I am kind of getting used to the fact that I live downtown. It is both exciting and a little scary. But I will have time to explore in the weeks to come, and I think then it will become more fascinating and familiar.
I am going to go to he farmer's market this morning, just to get the Vibe. I do not have any money I can rationally spend, so it will be a lot of wishful thinking and people watching. But, that is Ok, for now.
