Well, it has begun. Today was a crazy ass day. It began with me cutting down a tuxedo cat, from out of the bushes. Apparently my neighbors heard a noise like a screaming child, or an animal in distress, on or around Friday. No one, and I mean No one went to check it out. If I had been here, I sure in the fuck would have went to investigate. Needless to say, that now that it is two days later, when I was told by my mother that there was a cat hung up in the bushes outside, and that he resembled my Kiddo Mr. Mischief, the first thing I did was go take a look. What I saw made me so sad, and so very angry.
Like I said, other people in my 4 unit building knew he was there, could see that he had hung himself, but, did NOTHING. I found out later that his name was Zenon. He had a tag on, indicating that he needs medication, and it included a phone number. When I called I could hear first the happiness, and then that sickening sound of dread when the son of the couple that gave him a home answered the phone. He was happy and relieved at first, and then....my voice told him that I did not have good news. He said he lived close by, and would be over soon. I had to cut Zenon down from out of the bushes, and I bagged him in three layers of plastic. The flies had been at him for a couple of days, and the fluid was coming out of his anus, and his nostrils. I will never ever forget that smell, and the realization that if that was My cat, I would be devastated.
I gave him back to his owners, so that they could say goodbye, and bury him properly. I do not know what kind of omen this is, but, I hope it is a new beginning for many. My mother said she was proud of me, my sister too. But, what else could I do. I mean, to me that was like leaving a person just hanging there rotting. I had no other choice but to return him to the ones that loved him while he lived.
We also made huge progress toward getting everything packed up, so that we can move first my mother, and then me, within the next three weeks. I will sleep well tonight. I hope that so shall Zenon.
