I know what you're thinking, a....blog?....surely not, but yeah for the 5 of you that might read this (if i'm lucky) here's a blog post
So last saturday being the broke ass student that i am, i went round to my mate Ismail's, for a night of vodka and guitar hero, also our good friend Joe turned up, unlike me and Ish, Joe is an actual tax paying citizen who can afford to live in nice parts of Manchester like Chorlton and own a car.
Before the guitar hero-ing we watched tv for a bit and Tony Robinson was doing what i can guess is the ultimate time team, he was on about how life on earth started, if this came from a trench somewhere near a roman fort i'd be fucking amazed, that west country bloke just going "Tony, ave a look at this here, its primitive single cell amoeba's and amino acids, make a pleasant change from all that fucking pottery" but somehow i doubt it. Anyways we also watched Michael Mcintyre's recent DVD "live & laughing" was pretty funny, just good humour".
Down to the guitar hero part of the evening, and let me start by saying that Ish is pretty fucking good, i've played it a handful of times before, but cos i actually play guitar i have a handle on rhythm, Joe on the other hand, hasn't played the game or a real guitar, and isn't all too hot at the game, first go round he managed a 4 note streak (we cheated so he couldn't get boo'ed off) but by the end of the night had managed a 13 note streak. I was busting out fairly average scores on most tracks, nothing to write home about or write here about, i was also drinking a lot of Absolut, i do remember Ish was wrecked and ended up playing from a prone position having fell off the sofa, and was interrupted mid song by a phone call so i took over on plucking duty while he continued to work the buttons.
I left at about 3am as Ish was going to an after hours club, i was drunk and wanted to go home, fuck knows what happened to Joe, i was planning on getting the number 8 night bus back and sat and waited for it, after it was 10 minutes late and i thought fuck it, i'll walk, you can probably what went past me 5 minutes later, and what kind of profanity i yelled at it, so yeah kids. walking across Salford at 3 in the morning is an experience you can't not try.
tl:dr i got drunk, played video games and walked home

some stuff I've picked up recently
VA - Electric Chair Saved My Life [Tirk] one of the best club nights in Manchester "Electric Chair" shut its doors for the last time last year and this is almost a "greatest hits" for the club, nothing but quality music to dance to, some real classics in here from Sly Mongoose, Pepe Bradock, Daniel Wang and the best last track ever to end a club night, Frankie Knuckles remix of Rufus & Chaka Khan's ain't nobody.
VA - Originals: Compiled by Moonboots and Balearic Mike [Claremont 65] another manchestercentric release as two of the city's finest and longstanding DJ's compile some excellent disco and house, highly recommended, also it's limited to 800 copies so get onto www.claremont65.com
Quiet Village - Silent Movie [!K7 Records] Balearic/Instrumental/Yacht/Disco/Cosmic movie music, lush production, great CD.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - ST [Wichita] So i realise i'm a million and one years behind with this one, but watch me give a shit as this is just an excellent disc, the two tracks that bookend the album "Let The Cool Godess Rust Away" and "Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood" are standouts, Alec Ounsworth's voice has quite a unique style to it and i like it.
