My Machi waz hit by a truck yesterday. Not the tires, but a bad head butt. Machi weighs 28 pounds and haz a bad habit of trying to outrun our local trolleys. He beat the trolley az he does a couple of times every day, but an oncoming truck waz not paying attention. I waz standing on the sidewalk az the trolley passed and when tourists gasped across the street, I saw Machi staggering across the sidewalk on the other side of the street. I ran over and swept him up into my arms az he spat blood all over me. I jumped into the next passing car who carried us up to the vet hospital, their day off. The vet arrived about 30 minutes later and we stabilized Machi and determined no body damage, but hiz head iz a mess. Hiz eye iz swollen up and his jaw iz broken. After surgery today, they discovered that hiz palate iz broken az well, so he must have surgery again tomorrow.
After 8 years of obsessively playing in the street to everyone's dismay, Machi waz jinxed by a feature story in the local newspaper that came out the same day. While we all fear the dangers of traffic for our pets, passing traffic here fear the dangers of my outrage. Machi's street privileges have been revoked, but the danger to vehicles traveling over 10 miles an hour have escalated. Spring Street iz a cautious place for moving cars.

EUREKA SPRINGS - These days in downtown Eureka Springs, the big dogs on the block are not dogs - they are rabbits and cats.
Machiavelli Satori weighing in at 28 pounds is, according to owner Beau Satori, the biggest cat in town. The enormous black cat who will celebrate his eighth birthday on Halloween was a gift from Satori's sister, Robyn, on election day of 1998 when Satori was elected Mayor of Eureka Springs.
Machi, as he is called, a veteran of the Good Shepherd Humane Society, is not a fat cat, said Satori. He is a big solid cat, and he is a Scorpio.
Machi can be seen immortalized on China plate paintings and in watercolors and photographs, or he can be seen in the flesh lounging about with other connoisseurs of the arts in front of Satori Arts Temple and Magee Jewelry or on the steps of Susan Morrison's Signature Gallery.
In regard to Cajun, the former New Orleans Hotel cat who passed away in 2003: The only bane to his own existence was Machiavelli Satori, the big black cat on the block with whom he shared a common border. Witnesses both up Spring Street and down claim to have seen Cajun retreat in a quick hurry when Machiavelli came around.

Dr. Dew reviewed hiz x-rays this morning and told my Vet. Dr. Tony that he may not need another surgery. (save me min. $2,000) Machi haz an appointment with him in Springdale, Ark on the 21st, but we can cancel if he continues to improve by Monday. He will have to use the feeding tube for weeks to come, anyway. I've been learning how to administer feedings.
Dr. Dew does surgeries in L.R., OK City, NW Ark, and lives in Tulsa. He haz long grey hair past hiz shoulders and huge grey beard to hiz belly. Typical 'master' surgeon. He, too, waz amazed that Machi survived.
They've concluded that Machi iz 'hard headed'.
