Great homework from @missy and @rambo but I really struggle in the kitchen!
But then that aside when Christmas time arrives I bake something in particular a few times!! As its my favorite time of year!
Thats right its gingerbread!! I love gingerbread! but only when its home made store bought I can't stand.. sometimes its too gingery, sometimes its too floury just yuk!
But every christmas its my job to make the gingerbread and I love it for the decorating, the taste testing and of course my awesome cookie cutters!! These images are from last christmas and they are so awesome! I have more now so this year expect to see some goodies!!
I love christmas it is honestly my favorite time of year and after spending it in London last year in the old I realised how much I LOVE an Aussie christmas in the hot sun and the routine of it all! so for starters here the recipe I use for my gingerbread its actually from a couple recipes I combined together and everyone is different, they can be made in other ways but these are my measurments and I love how it taste, even without icing! (and I do love icing) <Frosting for you Americans out there!
Ingredients
125 grams butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup golden syrup
2 1/2 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarb soda
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
Method
1. Sift dry ingredients together brown sugar, flour, bicarb soda and spices
2. in a seperate bowl combine egg yoke, melted butter and syrup
3. pour syrup mix into dry ingredients and stir in till combined
4. kneed mixture on a clean flour covered bench
5. roll flat, cut our your shapes and repeat in till there is no dough left.. or you've eaten the last little bit!
6. gease/ cover with baking paper a couple of trays or how ever many you will need to place all your cookies and place in a moderate oven (roughly 150)
7. cook for 15-20 mins watch them after about 10, electric and gas ovens all vary to be careful!
8. let cool and decorate with icing/frosting, sprinkles, anything!! I usually make my icing with icing sugar and water and little bit of lemon juice!or you can add flavorings to your icing that you can get from the baking section of a supermarket if you wanna go all out! =D same as where you can get the food dyes for your icing too! color is fun!!
oh also if your wondering how I pipe out the icing I just put the icing in those freezer bags/ sandwich gladwrap bags you get from the supermarket and I cut a tiny hole in the corner of the bag, so easy, so cheap and you just throw it away after and you get like 100 in a bag for 50c.. actual piping bags give me the shits haha
And there you have it!
The best cookies that you can leave for Santa when you comes brings you presents! or coal depending how youve been haha
we always eat cookies well before christmas leading up to and would leave them out with milk.. when we grew older it turned into a beer and dad would eat them always leaving like a gingerbread mans head or something.. then we would snack on them in the morning while we opened presents or in the later years waited for our parents to get home from church..
I cant wait for christmas this year!! I already feel like backing cookies!!
