A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct.
from Manual of MuadDib by the Princess Irulan (Frank Herberts DUNE. 1965)
Personally, i would like to avoid over used cliches like posting a list of resolutions that will waver in the first 4 weeks of the new month, the new year, the new decade, the rest of our days. Aside from having a Blue Moon today in New Years Eve (it happens only once every 20 years!), this is -in reality- quite a regular day. The sun will set, the moon will rise as the distant stars sparkle and -hopefully- the sun will rise tomorrow and so on and so forth ad nauseam ad infinitum. (Dont believe me? Ask your dog/cat/pet why this day is different) There is something that sets this day apart for us humans. There is a pervasive need to make a stop, sit down and look back at what we have done in the last 365 days we have lived; we stop and ponder about the decisions we took and the paths we threaded, gauge the completion -or lack of, in some cases- of the goals we set up for ourselves and we desperately try to organize our macrocosm so it fits within our own microcosm and vice versa. We take the time to make sure that the balances are, indeed, correct.
Being an avid reader and a compulsive movie watcher ( i will watch and enjoy even the LAMEST of movies out there), i end up gathering little snippets of wisdom here and there. And there is nothing i like more, than sharing this little snippets of enlightening with those willing to listen. Recently i saw a movie that blew my mind, so to speak. If you have the chance to see it, i totally recommend it, and if you have well, either you agree with me or i would need you to go and see it again and try to see it with the point i am trying to put forth here, in mind. Said movie is Zombieland, and it offers a set of rules, i would like to nominate as The De-Facto New Year Resolution List to be used henceforth:
1. Cardio
2. Double Tap
3. Beware of Bathrooms
4. Wear Seatbelts
6. Cast Iron Skillet
7. Travel Light
12. Bounty paper towels
15. Bowling Ball
17. (Dont) Be a hero
18. Limber Up
22. When in doubt, know your way out
29. The Buddy System
31. Check the back seat
32. Enjoy the little things
33. Swiss Army knife
*Bonus: A little sunscreen never hurt anybody.

We are all trying to accomplish great things, in our own personal way we look forward to accomplish our personal, laboral, sentimental, spiritual, economical, intellectual, <Insert your own here> goals. The only thing i could say, regarding this matter is KLAATU BARADA NICTA!
Well, not really: that was just a little joke. What i want to say is this: The Universe runs on ONE simple principle, and it is because of this ONE simple principle that the only constant out there is CHAOS. It sounds kinda gloomy, i know, but bear with me. We need to keep a level head, and deal with the chaos that is inside us, around us and through this, we will be achieving -or working towards achieving- that ONE simple principle the Universe runs upon: BALANCE.
So i dont want to bore you with a list of things i would like to achieve this year, or a list of things i am grateful for, or anything of the regular things people do this time of the year like wearing yellow underwear and such. All i want to do is wish you find that which helps you find the BALANCE you need to live a happy and fulfilled life. A good step towards this, and it is a step i have taken myself and has worked quite well -ergo the recommendation here, is to let go of those things that would affect you in a negative manner. Petty thoughts, revenge plots, hate and the such. Focus your will power, overcome your inner fears and let go of those things that bring you down. Find the BALANCE! and smile. An d when in doubt? Do what you do -at least- once a year: stop, think, take a deep breath, and reorganize your ideas before moving on.
Well, enough of my ramblings. I thank you for staying all the way here to the end, i really appreciate it! Remember: Find what helps you find your balance, and enjoy yourselves (See ZL rule #32!). After all we only have two more to go before 2012, no?
Happy New Year
