My body is broken.
I have been running crew for a show in SF for almost three weeks now. It's been taking out the set and the risers, setting them, and then striking the whole set and putting it away as if we were never there before. Since it's a rental space we can't leave anything out in the open.
So that means the 10' x 10' rotating platform made of steel and wood must be taken apart and stashed in a hidden spot under the audience, which is a four foot wide and five foot high crawl space. and also in the space we have to keep a set of risers, and the back railings and side railings for the risers. The second set of risers is leaded up behind the crawl space simply because we have no other place to put them.
Now keep in mind we have about 30 minutes to set up most of this stuff before the show, 15 minutes to build the platform durning intermission, and by the end of the night we are in a rush just to get the hell out of there.
But after the doing this for a few weeks I am hurting! My upper back and shoulders have been sore for weeks now. My lower back starting hurting last night along with my hips (WTF??) my knees have never been happy since i pushed carts at walmart for two years when I was 16. I have an irritated nerve in my right thigh which acts up if I am on my feet for too long. And even the tendons on the back of calves are starting to hurt. I wake up this morning and I lay in bed for almost an hour not wanting to move. Now each of this is bad enough on it's own but last night I was dealing with all of them.
But I only have two more shows left then I will never have to do this again.
