You know what really grinds my gears?
I know that Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline is guaranteed, at some point, to ruin our beautiful province's delicate ecosystem and land. Yet it is still being pushed to happen by both BC's and Alberta's Premiers. The fact they are "ok" with the possible (aka unavoidable) environmental consequences this pipeline will create shows just how little they actually care about the place we all live. The very core value of a Province's leader should be about preserving, maintaining, and hopefully improving the land they govern. I think BC and Alberta have two Premiers who need to check their priorities like right now, because if they don't, the entire Province is going to rise up and show just how far they'll go to Protect their land, something we will gladly do.
The biggest joke is why the pipeline has to be built in the first place, to get international oil companies product out of our ground and out of our country as fast as they can. Many Canadians are even under the impression that Canada owns it's own oil, that unfortunately isn't the case. Instead of us drilling and refining our own oil (which would make sense since we have the 3rd largest oil reserve on the planet) we sold one of our most rich fossil resources to foreign countries for a quick buck, who then make all the profit, and only pay a small % royalty back to Canada for raping our natural resource. Then they refine it and sell it back to us for $100 a barrel, neato! It's a joke.
If Canada just handled our oil ourselves, with Canadian companies, refining right in Alberta, there wouldn't be a need to be building pipelines every which way to get other companies products out of our country. Fuck the pipelines, and can we please have control over our own non-renewable resources?
