ok well today was the first day as supervisor. and i must say, everything possible that could happen... basically did.
first we get a suicide watch in the ER for soem bullshit guy that wasnt even suicidal.
so i scramble to get some guard on that... the whole time fighting with nursing supervision to get a PCA instead.
then i started meal breaks for everyone. that was smooth. i wandered around the hospital alot. drove around in our pimp ass new van. had some lunch. i had to pick up a body and put it in the morgue. no big deal. then i had 2 funeral homes come to pick up bodies. nice thing about day shift is that. when they come and you help them with loading the body, they tip you. i have no idea why, but they do. so since i went to work with only 3 bucks to my name, any money was welcomed. first guy gave me 4 bucks the second guy gave me 5. so i had money for drinks gas and smokes. that made me happy. but that was all about to change.
about 4:30 or so, the guard on the watch in the ER calls for backup. the "suicidal" petient was getting all roudy cuz they were just gona kick him out and not admit him to the recovery center, which he had hoped for since he turned out to be homeless and just wanted some place to sleep. so hes throwing a fit. the doc tells us to get him restrained to the bed so the nurse and give him some of that lovely adovan stuff and make him go nigth night. but as soon as i got the ER the dude was dressed and bolting out the door. so i give chase. i had to weave in and out between 4 ambulances to find him, and the whole time the medics and the lazy ass guard in the ER are just standing there. so i ended up chasing this dude down street a good 4 blocks or so at full fuckign sprint. crazy shit. i smoke too much now to run like that but i did somehow. the whole time while bolting after this dude i radioed the office to call the PD and have then help out. so they sent two cars over and were there in less then a min, i love thier response time for the hospital. now i cant legally grab the guy and restain him if he leaves the hospital, but... i can trip the mother fucker and say he fell . so i did that, and right as he was getting a face full of dirt and pavement the cops showed up and jumped on his ass. score. so they arrested him for tresspassing thru peoples property and jumping fences and shit. nice.
so i wander back to the ER and catch my breath and the medics and the lazy guard just look at me like "wtf was that all about?" eh, whatever, lazy fucks. i dont get paid enough to go drag race and tackle some psycho 4 blocks down the street, but ya know what, i do it cuz sometimes its fun damnit.
after all that its pretty quiet, i get a call to go open a door for a nurse upstairs, when i get there and open the door, the office starts screaming at me on the radio to get to the office asap for a stat flight coming in with no notice. so i had to run again down 4 flights of stairs and return the master key, run back to our office, snag the keys, the reflective vests and a flashlight, since it was dark already, and bolt across the parking lot to get to the highschool field. opened the gate just as the chopper was circleing overhead, the police showed up, blocked the area off, the chopper lands, the ambulance came in, and did thier things. the stat flight was dropping off an infant to the ER for care. then they shut down, and told me they had to wait for another kid getting picked up going to another hospital. so im standing outside for an hour without my jacket, and already 45 mins past my time to leave. finally they get the kid, toss him in the chopper and off they go. lock the gate up, take a deep breath and walk back to the office.
got out of work an hour late, and now my legs are killing me from running so much today, and my feet hurt, and backs sore, and ugh. just had dinner, now im nursing a beer.
what a fucking way to start the new job. now i have to go do it all over again tomorrow. 8am - 6pm, then go home, and sleep for like 4 hours, then go back at work at midnight and do another 8 hr shift.
this job is going to kill me i bet.
leave me some love. i need it. and some asprin too.
