A s a follow up to my Sept. 13 post- I was back in Surf City for the first time since Florence. The pier mostly survived except for the "hexagon" at the very end. Lots of damage to beach front properties. Clean up and repairs are coming along. People are resilient and time heals.

@matterz What you don't see are the huge piles of debris that were on the beach during the early clean up. Most of that has been hauled off at this point. The first house in the picture has been condemned as structurally unsafe. It won't be rebuilt. What is missing from the picture is the front line of dunes that protected these houses. They are gone now for these structures. Not the case in all parts of the island, but here- not more protection.
