Happy Friday the 13th. Sorry to be so inactive...but as ya know, life happens. I finally got around to posting a few of our pics from our summer travels - Summer 13
Greece and Turkey were both amazing in their own ways. In Greece, after flying in to Athens, we spent a week on the Island of Kos. My two "brothers" from high school- Henrik and Angelo (from Sweden and Italy respectively) met my sweetie and me there. They were both exchange students who stayed with my family my senior year in HS. It was a wonderful reunion. We've all seen each other over the years, but always separately, never all together in the same place. Good food for the soul.
And Kos was sublime. Uncrowded beaches, great food, great house, sunshine all day. Olives at every meal. Lots of fresh fish and fruit. Local honey (from thyme flowers) and wine. The ancient Greeks had it made.
Then on to Turkey. We took the ferry from Kos to Bodrum. Spent a night there- it is a beautiful Mediterranean harbor town then headed up to Ephesus. The ruins there are the best I have ever seen. You really feel like you are walking 2000 years ago. After that we headed up the coast to an off-the-beaten-path fishing village for a couple of nights and then on to Istanbul.
What a city. We arrived on the final night of Ramadan. As darkness fell, the celebrations began. It was magical. We were only a few blocks from the Blue Mosque. It seemed as if the whole city was out and about, celebrating. We saw a lot of the city but in 3 days could only barely skim the surface of the major sites- Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace, the Bosphoros. Words really do not do it justice. Go if you ever have the chance!
Peace and love.
