So far I've been living here for about 3/4 months, not including a month spent on holiday/back in the UK for other business and moving. and I've loved it, i really enjoy living here, it really is the perfect sized city.
Just big enough for something to be happening all the time, and that you are always discovering something new. Yet it is still small enough that you can see everything and nothing is too far away o be a paid to travel to. On top of that, because it's smack bang in the middle of Europe the international community is superb, with new people constantly coming and going and bringing Czech people into the fold too.
The only down side, being 24 and not a student in the city sucks. You're gist new enough into the work community that you make a lot of mistakes, and others know this. You can also struggle to meet people with the same out look as yourself too.
I've made some great friends, but all of those are older than me by several years, are already established in their area of work and have different aims than myself. The people that I've met who are my own age are nearly all students, and as much fun as it is being invited around for beer pong and clubbing for 5 nights of the week, it does get a bit much pretty damn quickly. especially as you know you have to wonder into work the next morning with a hangover.
And before anyone says 'drink soft drinks rather than beer', here in the Czech Rep. beer is the cheapest rink on the market. A Pint at a bar will cost you 30-40CZK, at a music bar/lounge/club up to 50-60CZK max, but a soft drink (normally in a 33ml bottle) will cost you an extra 15-20CZK more than a beer.
Meeting people has been the hardest thing to do, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a group of people that meet every Saturday for either bowling, eating out, or like tonight, going to the theatre (first time going in a LONG time, which I am very much looking forward to).
The only thing about this is that finding other people is also hard, to meet people you have to go to a bar or club, and those are normally filled waitpeople looking for 1 night stands or with friends and don't want to meet new people.
I suppose I'm going though a stage where I'm changing what I want to do for fun and who I want to do it with, moving away from the student life that I've had for the last 4 years or so and not sure what I want to do these days instead.
anyways, most of this is all bollocks and me just writing it to see fi I can settle it in my own mind. No luck there so far, but early days. And back to mindless data input work until I can get the next job in that is hopefully more interesting.
Ciao dudes and dudettes.
