if anyone has ever been to detroit recently......i just went and i noticed that it is in fucking ruins....and i loved it. went down there w/ a few friends just to see what it was like. booked into a place called the leland in downtown. past its glory, w/ a bit of a Shining feel....we drove into town, and the first thing one of my friends said...."i can see right through that buidling...what the fuck?". hilarity. detroit was the kinda of place, 50 yrs ago that so many boomtowns are. mass industry and money that reproduces over and over again into skyscrapers, theatres.....etc. we rolled into the leland at about 4...and the adjacent streets were deserted except for a few people here and there. the designs of the surrounding buildings were amazing.....and most, i think, are completely empty....some boarded up....all decrepid...some, the workers, owners just left and never came back....i kept on saying "escape from detroit" or some distopia shit....to the point of annoying. i've lived in several cities, and right now...i'm in toronto...and i can hear the traffic, people and the hum of the city. the trains, rubber and all the yuppie squeals. no yuppies in downtown detroit. only deco archs....and blank staring windows. what a trip. hit a baseball game just to see some people....good game....sought out some casinos.....think i might go back. good spot. my sister's at ozzfest tonight. she phoned, trying to get me to go....i've already missed all the bands i'd like to see. seems when the big metal tours hit canada all the good bands drop off....was hoping for Shadows Fall. horns up /../.
