This just pisses me off.

I love the comment about Hurricane Charley. First off, we are talking about a big, relatively slow moving storm the forecasters can see coming many days in advance. People are already warned about this storm and are instructed what to do and to pay attention to forecasts. When new data comes in, is QC'd and analyzed, decisions are made and the proper authorities are contacted (Emergency managers, local law enforcement, public services, media, etc.), 30 mins is pretty good in my book for warning the public about the hurricane strengthening. Now, if he were talking about a tornado, that would be a different story. 30 mins to warn the public about a tornado is not unacceptable, it's pure incompetence.
Second, when severe weather hits, that takes precedance over all else. Routine weather products are put off until staff is called in to handle it. For a situation like a hurricane, where it can be seen many days in advance, emergency schedules are made so that there is ample staffing to handle the emergency and routine products. To suggest that the reason it took 30 mins to tell the public that Charley went from Category 2 to Category 3 was becuase they were busy with routine products is a fucking joke.
I could go on and on, but I have to get ready for work. I know 2 places where I am going to place the grey, angry clouds with the lightning bolts: State College, PA and Washington D.C.
