I was born, baptized and confirmed Catholic. I went to 12 years of Catholic School Education, plus 2 years of Jesuit University. I haven't been to mass in 2 years, nor Confession since 1994. I don't agree with some of the Church's beliefs, but I still, and will always consider myself Catholic.
I'm not a fan of Pope John Paul II, nor do I agree with his views on issues concerning birth control, abortion, etc.. But I do hope that if he does pass away soon, that it is peaceful and quick. I TRY not to wish a horrible and lingering death on anyone.
I watched the news and they had some die-hard Catholics who telling how they were "fortunate" enough to be in the Pope's "sacred" presence at some moment in their lives.
Sacred? Not only is he the head of the Catholic Church, but the Pope is also supposed to be person that God speaks through to his people. Basically, he's God's phone. But sacred? I think some are going waay to far with this "sacred" label. Or maybe I lost touch with what being a Catholic is supposed to be.
Anyways, if John Paul II dies, we'll get another Pope and God will have a new phone. I just hope that the Cardinals vote the next Pope to be one that represents all Catholics around the world, not just from Europe.
