I had a tattoo appointment on May 4th, but early that morning my dad fell and broke his hip. I rescheduled my appointment for a few weeks later and my dad died unexpectedly the day before my appointment. Obviously getting a tattoo isn't anywhere as important as the loss of a parent, but the tattoo I was getting was a tribute to my father and I know he would've understood.
The story behind the tattoo....
My father had wanted a tattoo since he was a kid (he was born in 1945), and he always wanted a tattoo typical of that era, which revolved heavily around sailor tattoo's. He really wanted an anchor, but never made the commitment. My father became ill with Lung disease (it was the lack of air that caused him to become light headed and fall = broken hip) and my brother, father and I decided to get a tattoo together, but he ended up being too ill to do so. I eventually decided to get the anchor with "POPS" (I'll explain later) as a living tribute to him, but I missed that by 1 day.
When my bother and his wife had their first child I started to tease my dad about how funny it was that he was a grandfather. I jokingly said that "dad" didn't sound old enough for a grandfather, so I immediately starting calling him "pops" from that point on.
I loved my dad dearly and I will miss him greatly.
