Hi Dear!
I know, it's been a while, I was keeping all my energies on my last set Honey Amber which I think you've already saw. By the way, thank you all for the love and support you showed me!! ❤
Now I'm here to tell you about how I picked my SG name, Brunhild.
I've never had nicknames, my friends always referred to me with the name that my parent chose, and I somehow liked it: I had no ways to be bullied, no one invented a stupid name for me. Still, it also meant that nobody knew me in a deep way which would allow them to pick a new name for me. I've always been shy and always wanted to protect myself by not sharing informations with people, not even with friends.
I've always been aggressive, attacking anyone who would try to hurt me, so while growing up I started with martial arts: first 2 years of Judo, than 15 years of Karate (now I'm 2nd dan black belt), in the meanwhile I also practiced Brasilia Ju Jitsu, Taekwondo, roman sword and fighting, stage fighting and medieval sword.
I've always been attracted by the norse mythology and all the worrior side, and as I am a woman, I've always wished to myself to die in battle with honour and being received from Odin in Asgard, as a Valkyrie, to dine with all the best warriors and serve them wine and beer, as a viking queen would do.
Brunhild is the English version of the norse name Brynhildr, who was queen of Iceland, shieldmaiden and Valkyrie. Long story short, the legend says that Brynhildr wanted to marry only a man who could beat her in a fight, but the one who fell in love with her (which she didn't love, btw) was not able to beat her and had to ask a friend to pretend to be him and defeat the lady. She accepts the wedding, but she defeats the husband as she understood the trick.
Her story is a story of romance and strength, and also her name is the most easy to pronunce: the other one I liked wer Þögn, Sigrùn or Hrist, but even if I loved those names, Brunhild was the only one I could spell, read and remember easily, also, her story is very passionating.
Now that I chose my own nickname I like it when people start referring at me as Brunhild or the italian Brunilde, it always reminds me about my strenght and my decision to be always proud and not easy to tame, it reminds me about all the times I had to stand in front of guys who wanted me to be quiet and obidient, the times when screaming "men" had to bend their head in front of my still and fury eyes. I am proud of being a modern shieldmaiden and proud of my self chosen nickname.
