This girl I went to grade school through high school with just friended me on facebook the other day. I was kind of surprised since this poor girl was tormented all throughout elementary school and was all but ignored in high school due to her being significantly less than aesthetically symmetrical (in other words, not the prettiest bird in the row). I don't recall ever going out of my way to make fun of her, but I also wasn't the type to stray too far from the pack when I was in the 5th grade or anything, either, I'm ashamed to say. I do remember this one time in high school on the bus ride home when we had just gotten our yearbooks, she struck up a conversation with me and I couldn't find a single reason not to engage her. She was nice, obviously incredibly humble and unfortunately beat down by the world due to all those years of torture before, but nice all the same.
I'm trying not to read too much into this, especially since I don't actually "talk" to at least half of my facebook "friends," but could that be why she friended me? A single instance of pleasant, yet otherwise insignificant discourse? I honestly don't think I've ever had any sort of significant interaction with her either before or since, really.
In any event, it's nice to know that I wasn't always an asshole.
