Good morning!! As promised, I owe y'all an update on the working-myself-to-death situation. As a refresher for any of my readers who might not be in the loop, I'm a paralegal working just shy of 30 hours every week at a small law office specializing in intellectual property, and additionally, a shift supervisor at my neighborhood chain taqueria, often approaching 50 hours a week lately. I'm pleased to report good news on both fronts!!
Per last night's mini-update, I will be taking an entire week off, *paid*, from the office in April - including the weekends before and after, 9 days without having to worry about TPS reports!! I'm expecting a heavy workload the week before, with depositions and joint pretrial disclosures due in advance of a trial date in May. In the meantime, I expect we'll be getting a couple of additional cases off of our docket via settlement negotiations - if all goes as planned, I'll be returning to a lighter workload.
As promised in the last work blog, the worst of the bad apples at the restaurant have been fired, and their replacements are proving to be a much better fit for the job - one old-timer who required next-to-no training, the other one a serious go-getter, taking a couple years off to save up some extra money before starting college. I have high hopes that they could be the permanent afternoon/evening crew on my shifts, fingers crossed.
I'll be taking at least one of the vacation-adjacent weekends off from the taqueria as well - ideally, explaining as little as necessary about the office situation, lest they try to take advantage and overbook me there.
With just over three weeks to go, my life balance is already improving, thanks in no small part to the newbies!! Gonna treat both of y'all this afternoon
