Yesterday
My Fella insisted that I not going into work yesterday. Technically, my boss had given me the day off anyway, but I felt like I didn't get enough done on Thursday (distracted by thoughts) and felt like I should go in and do stuff, but he pointed out that it was sunny for the first time in a week and I had the day off and...so I layed in the sun on his balcony for 20 minutes -- if you had cheap Scottish skin you'd understand why that is important on the eve of summer) and then hit the gym and then munched on leftover steak and celery sticks with brie while reading the rest of MOJO. By 1pm I felt like I was really on vacation...not just not at work. I rarely feel like that. I think it is the combo of the wind between the building, the traffic seven stories down and the East River flowing past the hulls of the sailing ships at the South Street Seaport that make it sound like vacation... Vacations for me generally involve proximity to the ocean, so being near anything that smells, tastes, sounds like ocean generally calms me the fuck down. One of the first things Im going to do when I get to Atlanta is order myself a subscription to MOJO. It really is a great magazine.
Unexpected Perks of SG
One unexpected perk of SG that I never thought about was that ever since my subway set went into the Hopefuls folder I've had people e-mailing me about working on projects with them. Of course, I know I have to be careful, but so far there have been several photographers who are truly legitimate artists, who pay (real, green cash), who give copies of the work and who will sign contract agreements -- which the Fella, in all his lawyery goodness is helping to draw up. The only I'm the most excited about so far? Working with this guy:
He takes a bunch of portrait pictures and then melds them into an insect. How friggin' awesome? Not only do I get a really cool portrait, but I get paid to do it and it is going into an exhibit in Brooklyn. I've asked to be a praying mantis... Did anyone see that New Yorker cartoon with the two praying mantis? One mantis doesn't have a head and the caption reads: You slept with her, didn't you... :::giggle, giggle::: He seems to think that I'd be better suited as a beetle...hum, I wonder why?! I think it is because I have a "beetlesque bum."
Last Night
Met up with new SG member PixelPimp for a drink to discuss an awesome photo project that hes working on. Hes really sweet and I think that Im really going to enjoying working with him on this project. I get to hold a fake headwhat else does a gal really want?
Star Wars III
It was beautiful so I hiked up to Union Square to meet the Fella for some Star Wars action. Unfortunately, there wasnt much action in the whole film. Thankfully, there were plenty of opportunities to laugh. It has been a really long time since I saw a comedy that made me laugh so hard that I started to get teary-eyed. Somehow, I dont think that they were going for that effect when they wrote He killed all the Younglins. YOUNGLINS??!!!! The dialogue was some of the worst Ive ever heard in any movie and that includes most of the porn that Ive seenand Ive seen some really low-budget porn. I want a tee-shirt that reads Lets Kill Us Some Younglins over a picture of a Jedi with a few missing teeth holding a Rheingold. No offense to anyone who loved it and granted, it is about 10x better than the last two were it sucked. Big time. How do you make Natalie Portman look that bad? I dont know. They should have hired Girlie whoever did Ms. Portmans face should be tortured. The voices were inconsistent, there were continuity mistakes all over the place and there was next to no character development.
I will always appreciate Star Wars because I do think that it was a turning point in some respects It wasnt the strict good vs. evil that you generally got before then people, even the heros were conflicted and sometimes made big mistakes or made the Wrong Choice. I could write a whole paper on Star Wars as social commentaryand I did in schoolbut if they walk away with a bunch of Oscars for this one Im going to be utterly depressed.
Tattoo
I can't see myself in a mirror now without imagining how my new tattoo will look. How Im going to last through that many hours Im not sure, but I am motivated by the fact that this is my last chance to get in to see her before I leave for the southern side of the Mason-Dixen line. Im scheduled for almost 6 hours of Stephanie time. Shes going to touch up a few places on my back while Im there.
The Move
Definitely feeling some anxiety about the move recently. I feel like Im leaving home and while there are tons of great motivators on the Move To Atlanta sideI cant put my finger on it. Im just anxious. Mostly, I don't want to get another "office" job if I can help it during the year I'm there before I start law school...but the looming cost of health care, car payments, photography school...reality just seems to loom. Plus, I think I'm just really that sad about leaving home. New York will always be home. No matter how much I love another place. The kind hospitality of the SGATLiens will help a lot though.
The Duke Spirit
Im in love with
The Duke Spirit. Theyre awesome. You Were Born Inside My Heart, Dark Is Light Enough and Love Is An Unfamiliar Name off of Cuts Across the Land are just stunning. I really, really want to see this band live, but they dont have plans to hit the US yet. But if youre in London or Glasgow you should look them up. Theyre playing Glasgows King Tuts tomorrow. I got to see the historic King's Tut with
the_shine, tour guide extraordinaire, when I was in Glasgow. We didn't get to hear any live music, but it was kind of cool to get to go anyway.
Tonight
luna and I are going out for some boogie woogie shaken your goove thang break it down shimmy shimmy shaken shaken action tonight. Not sure wherebut so long as there is copious amounts of Sugar Free RedBull and awesome tracks in the mix I really do not care. Ive been feeling pretty dull recently. Plus, I have to make it into all of my favorite places one more time in the next month.

Still No Battery
Nikon still hasnt gotten me my battery charger yet. I was really hoping to have it by this weekend to play around some more. No beans. Im stuck using my crappy little Sony point-n-shoot.
Great Backup 2005
Having learned my lesson once already this yearIm in the process of backing up all of my mp3 files to CD. It is in this process that I am beating myself for not getting the DVD burner option on my PowerBook. Silly, silly me. This just reinforces my new policy that it is better to just go for broken (and in this case it is literal) when it comes to buying electronic toys. I didnt get the biggest iPod and I regret it. I didnt get the DVD burner and now Ive burned 6 Cds and Im not even all the way through the B artists in my iTunes library I have more music than I thought.
My Favorite Self-Portrait
One of the things you learn to do very quickly when traveling alone is to take "self-portraits." Here, is my very favorite self-portrait (sorry, the quality is icky...after my hard-drive crashed this is the only one I have left...):
