Whose Afraid of the Big, Bad Scrotum?
Evidently there are a lot of people out there -- mostly elementary school librarians -- who want to ban this book because it uses the word "scrotum."
Sadly, I suspect that the elementary school librarians who don't want the book in their school's library because "teachers [don't] want to do that vocabulary lesson," (ie, explaining what "scrotum" means to a 12-year old student) are probably more concerned with dealing with irrate parents rather than a general fear of the word "scrotum." I suspect that in my home-town a teacher who tried to teach a class of 12-year olds what "scrotum" means would probably risk losing their job. Someone would accuse the teacher of "promoting sexual activity" by teaching the word scrotum. I'm not kidding. I've seen it happen in similar situations. It is sad. Heaven forbid that a teacher teach or that a 12-year old learn what the medically correct work for a "penis" is. Since when did we get so scared of words?
Birthday
Some of my friends had a birthday soiree for me last night. My birthday isn't until Feb. 22 (George Washington and I share birthdays) but it was fun to celebrate with people. There was much fun and some pinota busting. Good stuff. I was surprised how theraputic it felt to smash a shark made of cardboard and paper and stuffed full of candy. I highly recommend it.
SG Hunter, SG Brett, Nadzofsteel, cikpup and former SG Calamity were all here to eat veggie chili with me. It was a fun day. I took my friend Kyoung to get his first tattoo. We drove out to Long Island and SG Autumn took us to Super 88 Tattoo. They are really nice and Scottie gave Kyoung a great tattoo. I'll post pictures soon.
