I shot that (I was the photographer, not the model for those of you who were confused about that) for the current issue of BROAD magazine.
On more meaningful patriotic photography...

Photographer (and my new hero) Eric Etheridge has been tracking down the origianl Freedom Riders (the people who challenged segregation as Freedom Riders in the spring and summer of 1961 -- almost 300 were arrested and served prison time in Mississippi for sitting in the "wrong" seating areas of bus stations -- oh my! -- or -- worse (depending on whom you ask) -- sitting in the "wrong" section of the bus) So Eric is tracking down the surviving Freedom Riders, who are all Senior Citizens now, and taking portraits of them and linking them to their mug shots from the Freedom Rider arrests.
Everything about this project appeals to me...his photography is fantastic and he is perpetuating history...continuing the story...filling in the past...leaving us with a fuller picture of the people who really have made a difference and defined what (ideally) makes, or can make, a great nation of people.
This year, idolmaker and I are staying in for the 4th (and out of the nasty sunshine that makes my cheap (but lovely) Scottish skin all red and peely and watching a stack of "Americana" flicks. The list?

- Fried Green Tomatoes
- The Fastest Indian
- Nobody's Fool
- Serenity
Because he hasn't seen it and I just made him read the book. And because you don't get much more American than fried green tomatoes...
Because Indian motorcycles are a slice of Americana...and because I love Anthony Hopkins and neither of us had seen it yet...
Because I haven't seen it and because Jessica Tandy is in Fried Green Tomatoes...
Because space is the final frontier and frontiers are the essense of Americana. And we both loved the shortlived Firefly series and hadn't managed to see Serenity...
...and surprisingly, we were able to find them all in the "you have one minute" timeframe that the crabby Court St. Blockbuster employee gave us when we staggered in a little tipsy at midnight last night. (Have I mentioned how much idolmaker spoils me?)
On The School Front
I officially accepted enrollment into St. John's School of Law for the fall of 2006. I'm very. Very. VERY. Excited about this...

I just got the word. Twinkie Family trip to the T.dot and NYC!!!! The Nyc portion will be August 10-15. I am sure family/shopping type things will be packed into the days, but I'm sure most nights will be wide open while the old people sleep!
