Christmas 2005
Well, I had the best Christmas that I've ever had. I'm with my soulmate who spoils me ROTTEN (I was very naughty this year...but oddly enough, I didn't get a single lump of coil! Just lots of other goodies in my stocking(s).
(Yea, check out THAT grin!)
I got to spend the holiday with my family -- that's a great gift -- having everyone together like that -- rarely happens anymore. But the Family did get a dominoes set...which is great! S recently showed me the many thrills of playing dominoes (it is even better when everyone is trashed!)
Me and one of my sisters...
There was lots of wine...
...and I got to impress my siblings because I actually knew how to work a record player and clean records properly. God. My sister asked for a record player for Christmas (a gal after my own heart, obviously) and my grandma gave her theirs -- it was still in the box (crazy!) -- and even though everyone in my family has an iPod...we were sitting around listening to the record player. Go figure!
...So I dug up a bunch of the records that I had kept around...including the original Meet the Beatles album, the White Album and a ton of Bob Dylan records. She (15) was like, who is Bob Dylan? I nearly died. Move over Ashlee Simpson, it is time for some REAL music...
I got to wear my cool new SG hoodie (love it!)...
...which prompted my dad to tell me that he's been listening to the SuicideGirl podCasts on his iPod...I've decided that I might as well just flaunt it now that I've told them...not blatantly, but show them that I'm proud of being a girl on the site. It has been so positive for my sister, too. It has really opened up the opportunity to talk about "things." She's really proud of me...of course, my brothers (22, 20 and 18) all wanted to bring their friends around to show me off. That was just a little creepy, but fine, kind of cool, too. I really expected them to be grossed out, but they are all hugs and "yo, you're a hottie" so it's great. My mom thinks it's the most horrible thing I've ever done. My father...hasn't really told me what he thinks. At least he's trying to understand it though. That is rather supportive, I think...
I did get lots of great presents...mostly socks. I got over 20 pairs of socks...each individually wrapped. Now, socks are NOT a lame gift. I mean, who wants to spend their hard earned money on socks? Stocking, now that is another matter entirely, but socks? No way! So getting stacks of yummy wool socks for Christmas was entirely awesome. So here is the list of what I got since that seems to be the trend in SG blogs this year:
-20 pairs of awesome socks
-a snow scrapper for my car (which is going to be much needed this year!)
-a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret (which I always save for the Semi-Annual Sale -- yea!)
-a CompactFlash card for Rupert (wicked awesome!)
-a backup battery for Rupert (yea!)
-candles
-a bottle of wine
-a collection of crochet hooks
-gum
-two giant bars of my favorite soap from Bath and Body Works (Sandlewood Rose!)
That's it...pretty fantastic, right?
New Years, 2006 Style!
I'm headed off to Vermont to snowboard for a week! I'm going to be black and blue and exhausted and SO HAPPY by the time we get halfway through the week. I envision a little time in front of the fire just recovering, so I'm packing my crochet bag and the origami set that I got for Christmas. I want to make a ton of origami critters to hang from the ceiling...ala kitschy style. I envision tons of origami fish and storks and frogs hanging from the bathroom ceiling. At least, that is my idea. I have to figure out how to sell this to the Man though... Perhaps I'll come up with a very naughty way to do it... :giggle:
Speaking of snowboarding...the Man decked me out with Burton snowboarding gear for Christmas. I'm a tad worried...now everyone is going to think that I actually know what I'm doing and not stay 100 yards away from me for fear of me running into them!
I'm so excited to have my own gear! It is all so pretty! And now it makes me feel like I'm on my way! So we're spending New Years with some of his friends up there...away from the insanity of Time Square.
On that note, I won't have internet while I'm up there, so if you write to me and I don't write back...just give it a week and I will. I promise.
Closing Thoughts
Perhaps it is the transition from one year to another...but I can't help by think about what I was doing last year about this time...and whom I was doing it with. It's kind of sad because they aren't around anymore. I had a moment today -- unfortunately, it hit during a shoot that I was doing -- where I felt really sad...missing someone who was so special to me. There is a Von Bondies song, "No Regrets" that I really like... The lyrics say "you haven't lived yet if you haven't got no regrets." Now, grammar aside... I guess I've learned a lot about regrets this year. Not that I have a lot of them, but I understand what it means to make really hard -- difficult and damaging -- choices. I guess the key is that you have to learn about making those choices from the times that you make them.
I've loved and been loved.
I've made new friends.
I've made choices that I'm uncomfortable with, but more that I'm confident in.
I've gone PINK (yea!).
I've learned to snowboard.
I've learned to crochet.
I've bought and learned (learning learning learning) how to use my camera.
I've found my soulmate.
I've been accepted to law school and had the confidence to turn it down for a year.
I've quit a "real" job and managed to support myself with modeling work.
I've moved and moved back.
I've had more orgasms this year than in my own life (I'm SO not kidding!)
I'm happier than I've ever been in my whole life.
It has been a great year.
