Well, it's official...I actually have a job. I accepted the offer and start on Monday. I really can't wait to get started. I know I sound like a broken record, so this is probably the last I'll mention about it.
Now what? I need to prioritize my next few months' worth of purchases. There's the stuff I NEED like the crates of my personal junk that are still in a storage facility in Maryland. I also need a new laptop as it will make things a whole lot easier. Those new Macbooks looks pretty cool, but I'll likely go with another Tablet PC. To anyone that has been on the fence about one, I can say they are a great tool and certainly worth buying. I just advise that you stay away from Toshiba...Windows is cranky enough and Toshiba has figured out a way to make it worse. The problem is, the Toshiba ones are so frickin' thin and sexy....
What else? I need a new wardrobe like nothing else. For the most part, my job is casual, but there are certain situations that will require me to play dress-up. I'm a big guy, so finding stylish clothing that fits "right" is becoming a challenge. I can still buy off the rack at Macy's and Nordstrom, but it takes a hell of a long time to find something that's not totally fugly. I also wish for one unified sizing standard...e.g. What Kenneth Cole considers XL differs greatly from what CK considers XL. My new company has a full blown gym in the basement...I should start using it.
Oh, and then comes stuff I WANT. I need a new espresso machine bigtime. I used to have a Solis full-auto...it was a good machine, but after 2 years of use, a plastic part snapped and it became a 20 pound paperweight. This time I'm looking for something made from actual metal. I've had my eye on a few models, but won't look into it seriously until the above purchases are made. Once my junk is here from MD, I can start home-roasting espresso blends. I'm sick of contributing to Starbucks' success. Speaking of *$, their full-auto espresso machine is actually quite good. Years ago, they invested in..or bought outright, a company named Saeco and rebranded their machines. The thing runs about a G usually, but sometimes you can find it on sale for as low as $699. It's bang for the buck..my dream machine is about $2K, but I really can't justify spending that much for one.
Then...a set of Le Crueset cookware. Oh man...I can't tell you how sexy it is. In storage I have a modest set of Calphalon stainless steel. I planned to upgrade to All-clad copper when I had the means, but the triple-enameled cast iron goodness that is Le Crueset is calling me. I'll probably end up mixing/matching. Copper saucepans...great for candy-making...a Lodge cast iron chicken fryer (EVERYONE needs one)...Le Crueset iron roasting pan, dutch oven, and specialized bakingware.
Ugh, this is a long entry. I have more to say, but I guess it will have to wait for tomorrow. What I wouldn't give to be succinct...
