I can not go a single day without seeing someone on social media somewhere complaining about woman playing games. Whether it's because "she's a titty streamer" or "she's ruining twitch" or "she needs to get her ass back in the kitchen because bitches don't know how to play games."
Naturally I could tell you all about Fran, the top 500 rated Overwatch support player. Or the now legendary Geguri who plays off tank for the Shanghai Dragons. Or Fareeha who is a top 500 DPS and Pharah one trick. Or Suicidegirls very own Nattestid who rocks Killing Floor 2 at every prestige level they have. But I feel like I'd be wasting my breath because every time someone does that it seems like the response from the community is immediately every excuse written in the book about why these extremely talented and skilled women don't deserve praise. I could probably write all the responses myself I've read them so often. Hell, for all I know there's a web page somewhere titled: "Why bitches can't play games" that these idiots run to every time a female gamer tries to stand up for herself. It's never ending and now matter how they say it these assholes always have the same reason for their objections:
Tits.
Don't even try to deflect the argument. A lot of men, as soon as they see large tits lose their shit as soon as they realize the woman attached to them actually has any kind of living skill that ISN'T sucking cock. It's really bad when the young lady in question is involved in an act that they enjoy in a non-sexual way. Their Alpha Male instincts kick in and they go into attack mode accusing the poor woman of "showing her tits for views" or "You aren't that good so you just show your tits for attention."
If you're a woman reading this your response is probably something along the lines of: "No shit asshole now will you get to the fucking point?" but if you're a guy reading this you probably have one of two reactions. The first is to fire up your liquid cooled keyboard and launch into an hours long typing rant about how I'm just some "white knight trying to get laid." The second is to just nod your head because you've heard this so many times from your female friends. To those of us with women in our lives we deeply care about and listen to this is nothing new. We're frustrated, saddened and if you're anything like me you can't help but feel like anything you say is only going to make things worse and not better. Speaking up against the dudebros simply means you're going to get flamed. You'll get bullied, harassed and maybe even get into a fist fight. For males it's a zero sum game. If we stand up to the harassers then we lose friendships with other males. If we try to play it down then the women we care about ostracize us as: "Just another boi." It's easy to feel helpless when those we love are being hurt and nothing we say seems to be right.
But we can't lose hope. The dudebros want our silence, it's their greatest weapon. It's why they immediately try to emasculate you or call you a "White Knight." They use the same tactics on you that they use against women, make you feel bad about yourself so that you shut up and she has to face them alone. While I can't give you advice about what to say to these assholes I can help you with how to stand up for the women you care about.
1. Speak with her, not for her. This can sound tricky but it's really very simple. If someone jumps into chat and immediately starts spouting sexist bullshit stand by and wait for the woman to defend herself. This is important for several reasons, not the least of which is that you don't want to make her seem meek in front of other dudebros. You've got to remember, these males want to make women look weak or pitiful and if they can't stand up for themselves because you won't shut up you're only contributing to the problem. Let her speak her mind and then follow up. There's nothing a bully hates more than a fair fight and if she looks strong because she can take the lead that will crush their narrative faster than anything.
2. Listen, don't explain. We've all been there. We get so angry we can barely form a damn sentence but we need to just let it all out. If the lady in your life is dealing with misogyny do not try to explain why these men are doing and saying whatever the fuck. She's not stupid, she knows damn well why these so called "men" are bashing her. Let her vent, give her emotional support like you would for any other issue. Most importantly of all though, trust that she knows damn well that you aren't the problem. You don't need to defend yourself or explain anything, you just need to listen. If she thought that, you wouldn't be in her life at all much less be the lightning rod for her frustration.
3. Be her teammate, not her leader. The only way women are going to overcome misogyny is by men getting the fuck out of their way. That doesn't mean you just sit on the sidelines and force her to do everything herself, though. Stand by her side and speak up only when necessary. She needs your support and while it goes against what we were trained by society it's okay to fall back and be the wing man in her dogfight. In fact I daresay we males need to learn this role and accept it more often. It's not a bad role to be in. You aren't any less important to anyone if you support them instead of trying to make all the decisions yourself. Society teaches males that we have to be large and in charge 100% of the time but it's just not true. Men, take a step back once in a while for the sake of your sanity.
Video games are very competitive arenas and with the rise of eSports they are only getting more so. Therefore shouldn't we have more viewpoints and extra perspectives on how to play them? Welcoming as many people as possible into gaming is only a boon for the industry and for gamers as a whole. Not only do you have more opportunities to meet awesome new teammates but the variety women can bring to gaming will help the industry grow in ways it never could otherwise. It just doesn't make sense to me why we would try to exclude anyone for any reason so petty as cup size.
I mean come on, we all love tits right?
