“So. Will I ever see you again?” Cindy asked Julie tears starting to well up in her eyes again.
“Why would you want to?” Julie asked sounding sad.
“Because I'd like to be friends.” Cindy told Julie. Julie's eyes opened wide in surprise.
“Friends? You know what I am and you want to be friends?” Julie asked her.
“Yeah why not?”
“Because I'll kill you.” Julie whispered showing her fangs.
“Go ahead.” Cindy held out her arm palm up exposing her wrist. Julie just stared at it unsure of what to do.
“I didn't think so. You act all cold hearted and shit but you actually care. I've known that for ten years, its part of why I came looking for you.” Cindy told Julie.
“Fine come inside.” Julie said rolling her eyes.
“Gladly.” Cindy replied.
Julie's apartment was tiny but not what Cindy wasn't already used to. In college she had spent four years in a studio by herself and boyfriend of the week or the occasional girlfriend. Since she had declared bankruptcy she had been forced to live in a studio once again. It had been an easy adjustment. Daniel's family had hoped she was miserable without the mansion and luxury cars that Daniel had collected but she was actually quite happy. Somehow without all that stuff Cindy felt free, more free than she ever had with Daniel. It was quite bizarre really.
Cindy flipped on the light switch but nothing happened.
“I took out all the bulbs. I didn't want any light in here. Sorry.” Julie told Cindy.
“Don't worry about it, its your place.” Cindy told Julie and sat on the edge of the bed. Julie lit a cigarette and sat down on the only chair in the small room.
“You're awfully brave entering the home of a vampire alone.” she told Cindy.
“I'm not afraid of you. I have no reason to be.” Cindy smiled.
“You should be.” Julie looked away blowing smoke from her mouth. “I could do anything I want to you and you wouldn't be able to stop it. I could finish what I started all those years ago only this time you wouldn't be able to leave. You would feed me for as long as I want and when I'm tired of hearing you beg.” Julie took a drag on her cigarette. “I will kill you. Because this is my home I could make up any story I wanted and never see justice.” smoke rose from Julie's mouth as she studied Cindy carefully.
“Still want to be my friend?” Julie asked eyes aglow.
“Why are you doing this?” Cindy asked folding her hands in her lap and leaning forward.
“Doing what exactly?” Julie asked.
“This scary, brooding vampire act. You're so full of shit right now its oozing out of your ears.” Julie hissed at Cindy and bared her fangs. Cindy didn't flinch.
“Seriously. What gives?” Cindy shrugged. Julie sat smoking for a long time without saying anything and Cindy waited patiently for a reply.
“Why do you care about me?” Julie asked mashing out her smoke.
“Because you cared about me. You cared enough to stop attacking my husband and I long enough to save my life. Don't even try to convince me you don't care now. I'm sitting here vulnerable, body full of blood and you haven't done shit so stop wasting our time. You talk a good game but you're no killer.” Cindy leaned back on the bed.
“Yes you are vulnerable.” Julie sneered standing up. She walked slowly over to Cindy and stopped in front of her.
“And on my bed, right where I want you.” Julie bent over at the hip and pulled her underwear off. Cindy smiled and pulled her shirt off over her head.
“Take me. Go ahead.” she told Julie before pulling her pants down over her long legs. Julie stared at Cindy confused as she undressed and lie naked on her back on the bed.
“Is this what you wanted all along?” Julie asked quietly.
“Its a start.” Julie winked and gestured for Julie to join her on the bed.
“God damn it why are you doing this to me?! Why couldn't you just leave me alone?!” Julie screamed at Cindy so loud it made her ears hurt. Cindy clamped her hands over them to protect them from Julie's incredibly loud voice. Julie leaped on top of Cindy on the bed and pinned her arms down with impossible strength. Cindy struggled at first but Julie's frozen grip was far too strong.
“I wanted to ruin your marriage, ruin your family, ruin your life! I wanted to destroy everything you and your husband had together. Why are you here now despite all of that?!” Julie screamed.
“Well then why the fuck didn't you?! You could have just let me die, you could done all of that and walked away and Daniel and I couldn't have done shit about it. But you didn't, you didn't do any of that and I want to know why! Why is it so hard for you to answer one god damn question?! Why did you save my life?!” Cindy screamed back.
“Because... Maybe I thought... it would be worse. FUUUUCCCKKK!” Julie screamed, clutched her head and fell onto her side on the bed. Cindy wrapped the woman up in a hug but Julie pushed her away.
“Don't touch me!” Julie screamed.
“Stop being such a bitch!” Cindy demanded and hugged her again. Julie pushed her away again but Cindy hugged her once more. Julie's body curled into a tight fetal position and lay still. Cindy wrapped her body around Julie's and before long started to shiver as Julie's cold body sucked the warmth from Cindy's living flesh.
For several long minutes Cindy held Julie as she whimpered and rocked back and forth on the bed. Cindy shivered from the unbearable cold of Julie's body but she wasn't about to let go of the other woman as she suffered. She was going to hang on until Julie came out of it. Eventually Julie uncurled and sat up on the bed. Cindy finally let go and sat next to her shivering violently.
“Death is what you feel.” Julie whispered.
“Fucking cold is what I feel.” Cindy answered.
“It was your eyes. So bright, so full of life. I wanted to break you but I couldn't when I saw your eyes. You knew you were going to die and yet you were most alive. I've never seen that before in anyone either living or undead. I knew I couldn't break you no matter how hard I tried.
“Worst of all I felt something for you. Something that I've never felt for any human before. I couldn't let you die because I wanted you all to myself. I saved you because in my heart I knew... I could not let you die.” Julie finally confessed.
