First of all I apologize for the bitchy blog post yesterday. Its a pet peeve of mine and its been happening a lot lately so I just needed to vent.
Now the fun stuff. My offer letter for Tesla Motors came today and my pay rate was actually quite a bit higher than I thought it would be. Plus I get some other really awesome benefits that I've never had before. I get paid vacation, a 401K and STOCK! Boo yah! This job just keeps getting better and better.
However, while the good news flows in more bad news confronts me. I managed to rack up quite a bit of debt and loose three cars in my four years of temporary employment so its going to take quite a bit of time to fill those holes back in. By my estimate the debt alone will top $20,000 and that's not including buying another car. Its probably going to take a couple of years to erase all that debt even at my now sky-high pay rate. I hope that stock option vests soon, I have a feeling that's all going to paying off my debt! More immediately is the problem of getting back and forth to work without a car. Public transportation doesn't reach the Fremont plant from San Jose. A neighbor has offered to loan us his car but that's a lot of wear and tear not to mention gas $$$ we're not going to have right away. We're going to need to skrimp and save every penny we can save.
Speaking of debt I have vowed to spend the rest of my life debt free. No credit cards, no loans none of that shit. Well, that's not true we want to buy a house eventually but that's probably the only loan that is exempt from my no debt rule. I'm certain we can buy a used car without a loan and with my mechanical skills get it up and running like new for cheap.
Last but not least is my electric car project dubbed: "Project Electric Eel." I'm going to find myself a very used compact car (not wrecked but a little body damage is no big deal) with front wheel drive and a manual transmission. My goal is to use a 144 volt battery pack coupled to a 9" motor and a controller that handle some serious amps. I'm hoping to get the car to top out about 80-90 mph and 100 mile range. Basically about the same performance as a Nissan Leaf but with any luck for less than half the price. Auto shopping will begin either soon or late depending on what other solution I can find to the transportation issue. If I can find someone to carpool with we can stop borrowing the neighbor's car and take our time buying a car for ourselves.
So with every solution comes five new problems. Oh well, that's life.

I hardly ever exercise to be honest. Sometimes I take a yoga class or go swimming but that's about it. More protein and less carbs in my diet has made a big difference.
