I'm sorry about those that may loose their jobs but in the long run what kind of jobs could they possibly have? the era of oil is drawing to a close, it's time to move on. That means making tough, shitty choices at least for the short term until the industry can make the necesary changes to catch up to the changing times. We either make the hard sacrifices now and take a small hit or keep to the course and then everyone looses a fuck of a lot more than just their jobs. I think dropping 23,000 jobs from oil rigs is a shitty price to pay but it's a fuck of a lot better than loosing the job of every oil rig operator in the gulf as well as every business owner on the gulf coast because of more blown out wells. The part that really pisses me off is that it didn't have to be this way. the oil companies could have started changing directions years ago but no, "it would cost too much money." Now I bet BP is wishing they had spent the $20 billion on new energy rather than cleanup relief. They'd be making double that inside ten years if they had made the easy choice years ago. Now we have to make the hard choice because of them.
