Fear
Fear is the new opiate of the masses. It has turned mother against daughter and father against son. It is the element that now drives and restricts us. Fear has turned modern day society into a pack of ravenous wolves. Enjoy your fear based world. Western society is so sacred of what might happen to their perfect little microcosm that life itself has lost all meaning. Wake up, go to work, because I don't want to reduce my standard of living...God knows what they will say if I do! Look good stay in shape and wear designer clothing...God knows what they will say if I don't...be successful buy a new house live "well"...God knows what they will say if I don't!!!
Anyways all this to say, when you do come from a part of the world where the shit HAS hit the fan, I think you live life with less fear and more determination to enjoy each moment and each person you encounter. We are a spoiled and rotten nation and I seriously think we need to re-evaluate our position. Not just on a Global basis but locally as well. We need to appreciate the altruistic nature of collectivist societies. I have never once gotten a smile or node from an older white person on the bus or metro here in Montreal...I wonder why that is...Individualist culture is taking its toll on the world and on people.
Can we go on living for the I alone? You tell me.
