Hundred Reasons
Hailed as the antidote to nu metal corporate wank, Hundred Reasons show it is in actual fact possible to kick it in an emo-rock-wake-up-you-fuckers-and-feel-this-kinda-way. With 3 Eps, 2 Albums and a tour history beyond anything Ive ever heard of Hundred Reasons have a global following of both fans and media without courting hype. Besides this, they have garnered a reputation for being the most down to earth, least up their own asses honest folk, but dont let this lull you into a false sense of security, oh no, Hundred Reasons is a force to be reckoned with.
BRIT: Hello boys, what have you been up to for the past week?
COLIN: Just hanging out and getting the boring stuff in order after coming off of tour. The usual, catching up with loved ones and friends.
LARRY: On Sunday we played in Switzerland, on Monday I did some pro-tools work for the Thrills, on Tuesday I went surfing with Bews and Paul and today I'm mastering the new Twofold single on the top floor of Centre Point.
PAUL: For me this week has been pretty relaxed, had a kick about with mates and recorded a song to drive fast to.
THE ANDY: I went away for a week, nice.
BRIT: You are due to play the Carling Reading-Leeds festivals here in the UK who are you looking forward to seeing?
COLIN: There's plenty to see on our day but top of the list is the Hives. Havent had a chance to see them before so Im looking forward to that.
LARRY: 50 Cent, Goldie Looking Chain, Our Rider.
PAUL: I'd love to see A, the Hives, Funeral For A Friend, The White Stripes, The Streets, Supergrass and shit loads more
THE ANDY: Im just going to see as many bands as I can!
BRIT: You have been touring heavily whats your least favourite thing about it?
THE ANDY: The waiting about all day can suck a lot! But at least I'm not doing a 9 to
5.
COLIN: missing people is the worst and when you get home, your friends have new jobs and partners and you have a host of new shit to catch up on. We live in a bubble on the road but life goes on without us.
LARRY: Yeah, I love the travelling, but being away from my friends and family can be hard. Every time I get back I have to catch up with the last few weeks of peoples lives. I'd never moan about it though and people that do moan about it should be shot in the face. Touring rules!
PAUL: I get to go to great countries with different cultures and amazing sights but most of the time were too busy to have a look.
BRIT: During your recent tour, supporting Incubus, didnt you visit Reykjavik? its my favourite city in the world - what did you think of it?
THE ANDY: Unfortunately the Incubus show was cancelled but we did do a show over there with Minus and it rocked! Plus we saw loads of young kids who were amazing skateboarders!
LARRY: I thought it was a unique city, but it started depressing me very quickly. The landscape is phenomenal, however and made it worth the trip. I wouldn't live there though.
PAUL: It's very different, I was told that in the week the people are peaceful and polite but on Saturday they go nuts and party themselves almost to death. We were only there for a Saturday so we know that part is true.
COLIN: Yeah we've been before and it's ace. Very barren landscape. I made sure I got my passport stamped. Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to check out the hot springs. Next time though we'll make sure of it.
BRIT: With the release of Ideas Above Our Station you were pushed even more as the UKs latest success, with such accolades as Kerrangs best new British band did this encourage or hinder you when writing Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge?
LARRY: Commercial success is a bonus, not a pre-requisite and it comes and goes. I'd never let it bother me or affect what I do as a songwriter or musician.
COLIN: I don't think it made a difference to us. We just always want to be a better band anyway. We only feel the pressure we apply to ourselves. You have to ignore that shit or you write bollocks just to keep other people happy who will only go and slate you for pandering to the masses.
PAUL: we can only write what's in use at the time. I know that sounds corny but thats the way it is.
THE ANDY: We just got on with writing the best songs we could without worrying too much about the pressure!
BRIT: Your debut album was produced by the legendary Dave Sardy (Marilyn Manson, Helmet, System of a Down, Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and he also worked on your latest album Would you consider working with him again or do you feel it may be time for pastures new?
LARRY: Who knows! We'd certainly consider it. It's not a conversation we've had yet. We have to see what sort of songs we write first.
COLIN: it's hard to decide on a producer until the songs are written and you have an idea of what they should sound like. Dave is amazing to work with and a lot of fun but we'll see when we finish writing.
BRIT: Where did the albums name Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge hail from?
PAUL: The other guys tell that story better than me!
LARRY: Too much weed.
COLIN: We love the Simpsons and one drunken evening down in Cornwall where we were writing. Bart wrote fireproof is not a challenge at the beginning of the show on the blackboard. We changed it slightly and when we woke up sober in the morning, it still seemed good.
BRIT: From the birth of Hundred Reasons up to this point - what are you most proud of?
COLIN: Its hard to pin down really as Im proud of most of it. Probably winning best album at the Kerrang awards. That was ace.
THE ANDY: Yep. Winning the best album at the 2002 Kerrang awards was definitely up there. To add to that just after we got the award Dave Grohl came up and gave me a celebratory hug!
LARRY: Our records. The tours come and go, but the albums we make will be there forever.
PAUL: For me its was supporting AC/DC at Hammersmith Apollo
BRIT: What do your parents think of your career?
THE ANDY: At first they were adamant but now they are very supportive.
COLIN: Mine are super proud but it took them awhile to realise the seriousness of it.
LARRY: Mine love it and come to every show we do in London. They've always been very supportive of me. They are incredible people.
PAUL: They love it, they got to see AC/DC and Incubus at Hammersmith Apollo!
BRIT: In typical SG stylename 5 things you couldnt live without
COLIN: My wonderful lady and our cat, my music, my video games, curry, and drink. That was easy!
LARRY: Music. Beer. Sex. London. Chinese food.
PAUL: In no order; Drugs (decriminalised/legal kind), friends, family, music, girls.
THE ANDY: My Laptop, my ipod, my friends, my sanity and of course my wife!
BRIT: Finallywhat are your thoughts on Suicide Girls?
COLIN: Ill let you know.
LARRY: I love pornography so I think it's all right. Tits! AWESOME! Seriously, I'd love if they were all my neighbours, we'd play naked Twister day and night.
PAUL: When I heard the name I was a little scared but I have to admit the website did put a smile on my face. I have a thing for Betty Page and my mates mock me for liking girls with big tattoos - you thought I was going to say something else! Yes I appreciate your website.
THE ANDY: If youre going to look at naked women they might as well be cool and not fake at all! Keep up the good work!
