I had a rather strange moment with one of my musical idols last nite. Second song into the set, Conor Oberst (the genius behind Bright Eyes) stared at me fairly intensely for a good 30 seconds. I was one of 2 photographers allowed to go up to the stage, there was no one else within a good 25 feet of me. I got nervous as hell and could hardly hold my camera steady. My nervousness was not so much spurred by fanboy lust, I just didn't want to piss off the guy that was performing for 4,000 or so people. It probably didn't help my nerves the fact that i feel a deep connection to so many of his songs and consequently to him, though I have never spoken to him. I am still trying to figure out what his intentions were. I am going to stay postive and say he was trying to give me the "come hither stare", something special, something to blowup into a poster and sell to thousands of horny girls.
Not sure how it turned out. More like a I want to kick my boot through your lens kinda stare, but thanks anyway Conor and great show man.
I was allowed to shoot the first 3 songs from the stage. Shot the rest of the show from my seat. My first show with the Canon 20D and the low noise at high ISO blew my fucking mind. Keep in mind these were shot at speeds of 1600 and 3200 and clean as a freakin whistle. More pics in my pics folder. And many more to process. The other two bands on the bill Coco Rosie and Tilly and the Wall provided some serious eye candy to compliment their killer musical performances. I will post some of those when I get a chance. I want a Native American Headdress anybody want to give me one?
Now my heart needs a polygraph
Always so eager to pack my bags when I really want to stay
I really want to stay I want to stay
The arc of time the stench of sex
The innocence you can't protect
Each quarter note each marble step walk up and down that lonesome treble clef
Each wanting the next one to arrive
An argument for consciousness
The instinct of the blind insect
Who never thinks not to accept his fate, thats faith.
There's a happiness in death
You give to the next one.
You give to the next one down the line.
The levity of longing that distills each dream inside my head.
By morning watered down forgot.
On silver stars I wish and wish and wish.
From one to the next one.
From one to the next one down the line.
You give to the next one.
You give to the next one down the line.
Bright Eyes-"I Believe in Symmetry"
There is a good lesson in there somewhere...
