Okay so I play computer games. Yeah what of it? I have been playing online RPG (think Dungeons and Dragons) games for the last 6 years or so. I have also been playing RTS (real time strategy... think controlling manipulating armies and economies) for a few years.
But I am burnt out on them. Not excited to play anymore. I enjoy but I need a change.
So I have been researching ways to bring my media together a bit more. How do I get the music from my computer to my nice 1080P Plasma TV and Stereo in the living room. Okay so Sonos is the best at that (www.sonos.com) but what about movies? What if I want to share my picture galleries or home made movies on the same TV that are stored upstairs on my PC? What about a new DVR to replace my crappy one from Comcast?
Wndows Media Center PC? Tivo? Slingbox? XBox360?
They all do pieces but none of them do it all.
So I am leaning towards a Sony PS3. Does it do it all? No. But for me it comes close. Blue Ray player for HD 1080P movies, WiFi to my PC to bring down music, photo's and movies, rumors that in Europe they have added DVR functionality that may come via firmware upgrade to the US and it plays CD's, DVD's with upscaling and last but not least you can have some gaming fun.
I think I am going to go for it. They are about $500 but I cannot get a decent Blue Ray player for that let alone all the other functionality.
They what about gaming that my girlfriend and I can enjoy together? I could get into FPS (first person shooters which my current PC is not powerful enough for) or I could go in completely different direction. Have you heard of Little Big Planet? This looks like a completely new concept in gaming, create you own mods, play them, publish them to the internet, play others mods, vote on them, rank them... etc.. etc..

I've dabbled a bit in RPG stuff, which can be rather fun. As to the the first person shooter games? Fugettaboutit!
My hand-eye coordination BLOWS.
Good luck in your quest for multi-media nirvana!
