A work of pure genius...

You know it is tough when you perform a masterful stroke of genius at work and you have nobody to share it with because fundamentally nobody around you really understands what it is that you do all day long. I need a club of messaging architects I can sit around with and shoot the breeze and share my successes with...

Goodbye Grandmother 1925 - 2007

Tonight my grandmother Braun passed away. She had been battling uterine cancer for about two years now. They were a good and solid two years with little reduction in her ability to live her life and share it with her family. She will be greatly and sorely missed.

She still had all her wits about her, and mobility and was...

Condolences, my friend. What a lovely, simple tribute. To have good life -- let alone a good death -- is kind of an unusual thing, really. Sounds as she was truly blessed...in so many ways. smile

I have one remaining grandparent, who I see only infrequently. I'm thinking perhaps I should give her a call this weekend.

ok so now that my new comp is up and running I can definitively say it was my old comp that was making SG so slow...

Man this is the slowest site I would visit bar none. I am getting much much faster load times now though. Dang I might even start looking at the pictures again!!! love

Bought a new comp, been configuring it and transfering data from the old comp. Keeping me offline for a bit. Spent the weekend in Astoria at the Hotel Elliot.... whoa. That little town is undergoing some drastic changes. Had a great time though.

On my way to the grocery store. Starving so I better go get some real food before I start eating all the...

Life, Family, Work

I still seem to be battling bouts of anxiety and I am still sorting out the sources but I suspect they are mostly related to the stresses around taking care of my one remaining grandmother and my other grandmother having just passed away.

I think it is my own mortality I am struggling with.

Further on today I am headed over to...

Sorry been distant... I have not been feeling well. Trying to sort out why. I will be around. Reading but not always writing.

Always acceptable to take a break. You are under no obligation to keep the rest of us entertained.

Curling up with an enjoyable book is good therapy. (Curling up with a sweet, purring kitty is excellent therapy, too!) miao!!

Take care, my friend. Feel better soon.

okay today sucked. We shut down the data center for what was supposed to be routine maintenance in the building. Usually this takes about 2 hours. I was in the office at 5am....

Well ... well ... well just got everything up and running again. Building said all was okay and we powered up the entire datacenter when suddenly the power dropped off the map...

Whoa, that does sound like a shitty day! I am always amazed at the grace-under-pressure that you techie-types tend to exhibit during times of crisis. I'd be tearing my hair out...or sitting over in the corner drooling. smile

You appear to be a very strong individual -- one who has overcome some pretty serious personal and financial tribulation. Take pride in this!

*Hugs* to you and Mr. Snuffy.

miao!! miao!!

Follow the thread and oh my what interesting things you do find....

So there is this women that works in my building that I see almost daily coming and going from the building and at the little coffee/lunch shop. We have chatted occasionally but nothing more than small talk whilst waiting in line or seated solo at adjoining tables.

Why do I remember her? She...

What a day.

Today my father, brother uncle and I cleaned out the barn on Grandma's property. The barn itself is probably 120 years old. Not huge (there was a larger one but they burnt it down in the sixties when they gave up dairy farming and made more room for crops). I don't think anyone had been in this bar for at lease 20...

the event is at 7pm! That's too late? smile Aww just kidding. I used to have a regular job where I had to get up early every day, and 7pm was late for me as well. But there will be hot burlesque ladies!!!! And lots of fun creative costumes and drawing!!!
cybele:
Whoa, talk about a highly motivated individual!! Are you always such a dynamo?? smile

I love that sense of accomplishment. Nothin' like it!

No, not every place in Denver has A/C, sad to say. Like MY apartment, for instance! It's a lovely old place, with LOTS of character, but no damned A/C. The swamp cooler does help cool things down somewhat, but, after 10 or so days in a row of 90+ degree weather, the building is just BEYOND help. Presently feeling like a baguette in a brick oven. Le pant!

You are so right re. the transitory nature of modern life in general. And this place certainly exemplifies that concept. People come...people go -- often without saying goodbye. Guess we should just get used to it...and enjoy these fleeting interactions while we can. smile

Congrats on the freshly domesticated Mr. Snuffy!! I trust he has a nice, big picture window to gaze out of?

So last week I was determined by this weekend I was going to ride the route to downtown to check it out and get a feel for whether or not I would like to ride my bike to work.

Saturday I had more free time then I had anticipated and it was nicer than I thought it was going to be so I said what...

Well finally yesterday Mr. Snuffy let me pet him. Today he let Natalie pet him. He is using his litter box and eating his food and exploring the garage (hence the foot prints all over my shiney just washed S2000!!). Things are going well.

Mr. Snuffy Update:

Yesterday I gave him a little canvas bag filled with catnip to see if he would like to...

That Mr. Snuffy is one handsome little devil! He looks just like Morris the Cat! smile

Orange tabbies are great. They tend to be quite affectionate, once they bond to you. And they're smart...and playful, too! Sounds as if you have won him over with the feline "kind." (Stop bogarting the kitty nip, man!)

Yeah, the St. Johns/inner-NE area really has been transformed in a positive way, thanks to urban pioneers such as yourself. I guess what makes me sad is the ongoing disappearance of farmland and other green spaces in the Portland/Metro region. And too many southern California-style housing developments, with lots of enormous, ugly homes. Talk about destroying that which made Portland special in the first place! It makes no sense!

Tirade over. biggrin

Have a great weekend, guy.

Well, I dunno about a raw foods diet (sounds like it might be a lot of work, eh?), but I can certainly recommend the Wellness Brand pet food. It's all natural, with no byproducts, wheat fillers, etc. Newman really liked it, and was very healthy on it for many years. You can pretty much find it at most small pet food stores (not at "big box" places like Petco, etc.) and at Wild Oats, I believe. Not sure about Whole Foods. Just a suggestion. smile

Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to go to the Body Works thing when it was here in Denver. A little too squeamish, I am embarrassed to admit. Guess I don't want to be reminded of red, stretchy muscle tissue every time I sit down to eat a plate of spaghetti! biggrin

Sounds like you are enjoying a pretty active Summer. Been hot as Hell, here. 99 degrees yesterday. Broke a record! Makes me wanna just hunker down in front of a fan, put my feet in a bucket of ice cubes, and drink cold beer. Ack! puke

(Perfect for catching up on my summer reading, though!)

Well, take care! My best to Mr. Snuffy! miao!!

PS: Is he still going crazy with the spraying? I have found that many of the enzymes that are supposed to break down that terrible smell -- and help deter the spraying behavior -- don't work all that well, unfortunately. Vinegar sometimes works.
