So I promised an overview of my college career, so here it is (sorry it's kinda long):
First off, because my mother said that I had to go to the local community college (it was less than a mile from our house) so she could pay for at least the first year, I did not take the SATs or the ACTs. Call me a slacker if you will, but they are not needed at community colleges, so why stress?
Fall of 2001-Fall 2002
I attended Victor Valley College while working two jobs (A.V.I.D. tutor/ Carls Jr, A.V.I.D. tutor/ Payless). They ( I mean the school) paid for the classes and I paid for everything else (mom didn't pay, occasionally I got $50 for books). I went one semester without books and most of them without all the books.I didn't know what I wanted to to, so just kind of went to go. There really wasn't any thing else up there to do seeing as I already had some of the higher paying jobs! But I did enjoy playing in the orchestra and taking some painting classes.
Spring 2003-Fall 2004
I attended Fullerton College. Classes were paid for by the school. Same book situation. I started off working at Bobby McGee's and then added Disneyland on top of that. That only last a few months. But I enjoyed my time here a little more. I got to take some really neat art classes. I learned that I cannot draw a circle to save my life and that I really enjoyed doing sculpture. By the end I had figured out that I wanted to be a teacher and started on track with that. I left with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts (and yes I realized even then, that it's not worth the paper it's printed on).
Spring 2005-Spring 2007
CSUF. Has anyone ever told you it's hard to plan a wedding while attending your first semester at a university? Well it kinda is! Well since I had my Associates degree I could afford the University! Let the student loans flow! I was also working full time at Disney. Still didn't have money for books (one class had 13 books). My time at CSUF has to be the worst of my college experience. I had the worst teacher I have ever encountered that first semester. Basically it came to this I hated my major, I still hate my major (Liberal Studies aka teacher prep). But I had a few really good teachers and most that were okay. Actually one of my teachers knew that I came to his 3 hour class right after work and didn't get upset when I would kinda drift in and out of sleep for the first hour (it wasn't him, it was the time, it happened in other classes). I did the best in that class. I really liked the teacher and how he taught his class. It was an art lecture class. Unfortunately I maxed out my art credits (aside from the ones required by the major which were not lab arts) before I got to CSUF. I took some teacher prep classes and got into a classroom in Anaheim. I didn't like it. It wasn't so much the kids, but politics of public schools and the no child left behind act. By this time I was so far into the major that I just stuck it out for the last year. I did take and pass some teacher certification tests though. There were some things that I did want to do at CSUF that I wasn't able to because I was working so much. I wanted to join the Fencing team, equestrian team/club, and I even thought about joining a sorority (not for very long though). In the two years I was there I didn't go to one event on campus, not one.
My college experience was nothing like I had hoped or thought it would be, but it is over and I have learned from it and I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies and have the certification to be a substitute teacher. I am glad it is over and look forward to finding a career doing something that I like and something that challenges me.
