During the evacuation, a lot of pets ran free, and the feral and domestic cats mated, so there are lots of young cats running around now who are friendlier than feral, but won't let anyone touch them.
We feed three of them, AND a feral cat that was around pre-Katrina and was still in our neighborhood several months when we returned.
The one who died was my favorite, very slender, petite and black, and would come up on the porch to lie next to you if you were sitting, though wouldn't let you touch her.
