If you built a living thing, atom by atom, electron by electron, 100% accurate to its living counterpart, would it be alive and function as a living thing? If you built a plant like this, would it grow? If you built a man, would he speak? Would he have memories?
If we could replicate a man, could we build a new one? If we broke down the code, could we make ourselves better? Could I give myself some badass horns like Darth Maul, or build an iPod into my head?
I say those scientists need to snap to it and get on this one. I could use me some x-ray vision.

I think I mostly gave up on reinventing the self in college, when I realized that, at least as far as I was concerned, it was too self-absorbed and impractical to be worth spending much more time on. To borrow the immortal words of Popeye, I yam what I yam. I'm sure that'll change over time, but not by any terribly conscious process. It just happens, as time happens to us all.
Now I just try to make sure the things in my life comport with where I want it to go and what I want it to be. Much more pragmatic.
